특수교육 대상 학생들도 스스로 한글을 배우고 익힐 수 있는 기회의 장이 열렸다.
충남 논산시 성광온누리학교(교장 이종권)는 최근 교내 행복나래관에서 유치부와 초등부, 중학년 학생들을 대상으로 한글 능력 향상 프로그램인 ‘도전! 한글 종을 울려라!’ 대회를 개최했다고 10일 밝혔다.
이번 대회는 한글의 소중함을 되새기고, 학생들의 언어 활용 능력을 자연스럽게 신장시키기 위한 목적으로 기획됐다. 단순한 평가 중심이 아닌 ‘함께 즐기며 배우는 한글 교육’에 방점을 둔 이번 행사는 학생들의 자발적인 참여와 교사들의 창의적인 운영이 어우러져 현장의 호응을 이끌어냈다.
행사는 두 개의 단계로 구성됐다. 1차전에서는 조별로 팀을 이루어 주어진 시간 안에 한글 자석을 활용해 단어를 만드는 활동이 진행됐다. 단순한 어휘력을 넘어서 협동, 의사소통, 주제 이해 능력이 동시에 요구된 활동이었다. 이어 열린 2차전은 개인별로 그림 자료를 보고 해당하는 낱말을 정확하게 쓰는 경기로 구성됐다. 시각적 자극과 언어 표현 능력을 연계한 평가 방식은 학생 개개인의 학습 흥미를 높이는 데 효과적이었다.
중학교 부문 1위를 차지한 나 모 학생은 “평소에 맞춤법을 공부할 수 있었고, 친구들과 한글을 재미있게 배워서 좋았어요.”라고 소감을 밝혔다. 단순히 등수를 매기는 대회를 넘어, 또래 친구들과 함께 고민하고 만들어가는 과정을 통해 언어에 대한 자신감과 흥미가 자연스럽게 배양된 것이다.
