한수원은 12일 한수원 방사선보건원에서 한국장학재단(이사장 배병일)과 ‘한수원 K-원전 장학금’ 기탁식을 열고, 매년 총 27억 원 규모의 장학금을 지원하기로 약속했다.
이번 장학금은 원자력공학을 전공하는 학부생 450명을 대상으로 지급되며, 미래 원자력 산업을 이끌 전문 인재 양성을 위한 초석이 될 것으로 기대된다.
전 세계적으로 탄소중립과 에너지 안보 확보를 위해 원전 확대와 소형모듈원전(SMR) 개발이 본격화되면서, 관련 인력 수요도 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 이에 한수원은 국내 원전 생태계의 기반을 강화하고, 글로벌 기술 경쟁력을 갖춘 인재를 육성하기 위해 이번 장학 사업을 기획했다.
한수원은 장학금 지원 외에도 ▲산학협력 및 취업 연계 프로그램 ▲국제 연수 기회 제공 ▲연구개발 지원 등을 통해 원자력 분야의 글로벌 전문가와 기업 육성에 박차를 가할 계획이다.
황주호 한수원 사장은 “K-원전의 수출 성과는 결국 우수한 인재에서 비롯된다”며 “장기적인 관점에서 기술력과 품질 경쟁력을 확보하고, 국내 협력 중소기업이 글로벌 무대에서 활약할 수 있도록 인재 양성과 생태계 강화에 힘쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.
