도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 15일(현지시간) 현재 이스라엘과 전쟁 중인 이란에 '미국에 일절 보복하지 말 것'을 경고했다.
연합뉴스에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 새벽 자신의 '트루스소셜'에 올린 글을 통해 "우리가 이란으로부터 어떤 방식·형식·형태로든 공격받는다면 미군의 완전한 힘·완력이 예전에 결코 볼 수 없었던 수준들로 내리 닥칠 것"이라고 경고했다.
그러면서 "미국은 오늘 밤 이란에 대한 공격과는 아무런 관련 없다"며 개입설을 거듭 부인했다.
또 "우리는 이란·이스라엘 간 협상이 쉽게 타결되도록 하고 이 피비린내 나는 분쟁을 끝낼 수 있다"고 했다.
현재 이란·이스라엘 간 협상 가능성도 거론 중인 한편 당초 이날 예정됐던 6차 핵 협상은 이미 취소된 상황이다.
이스라엘은 지난 14일 밤 이란 에너지시설 등을 집중 공격한 가운데 이란 국방부·국방연구소 등 핵심 시설도 포함됐다.
이란 역시 이스라엘 본토 곳곳에 미사일을 투하하며 보복에 나선 가운데 양국 간 충돌이 격화하면서 민간인 피해도 속출 중이다.
