대전과학기술대학교(총장 이효인) 치위생과는 지난 12일 ‘제80회 구강보건의 날’을 기념해 교내 창대체육관에서 유아 대상 구강검진 및 건강교육 행사를 열었다고 16일 밝혔다.
이번 행사는 대전광역시치과의사회와 공동 주최로 마련됐으며, 지역 내 어린이집·유치원 51개 기관에서 약 1,400여 명의 유아가 참여해 큰 호응을 얻었다.
‘구강보건의 날’은 영구치가 처음 나오는 나이인 6세(육)와 어금니의 ‘구(9)’를 결합해 6월 9일로 지정된 법정기념일이다. 이날 현장에는 치과의사 30여 명과 대전과기대 치위생과 교수진 5명, 재학생 120여 명이 함께하며 전문성과 실습의 결합을 보여주는 협력 모델을 실현했다.
치과 검진은 대전광역시치과의사회 소속 치과의사들이 직접 맡았고, 치위생과 학생들은 행사 운영 전반과 유아 눈높이에 맞춘 구강건강 교육을 진행했다. 특히 사전에 제작한 스톱모션 영상, 구강모형, 융판 자료 등을 활용해 올바른 양치 습관과 식습관의 중요성을 쉽고 흥미롭게 전달했다.

행사장 곳곳에는 아이들을 위한 체험 요소도 마련됐다. 치위생과 학생들은 캐릭터 탈을 쓰고 아이들과 직접 소통하며 자연스럽게 구강건강에 대한 흥미를 유도했다. 검진 후에는 캐릭터 포토존에서 기념사진을 찍는 시간도 준비되어 아이들에게 즐거운 추억을 선사했다.
대전과기대 치위생과 학과장은 “이렇게 뜻깊은 행사를 우리 대학이 주관하게 되어 매우 자랑스럽다”며 “앞으로도 구강보건교육 핵심 역량과 바른 인성을 겸비한 예비 치과위생사를 양성하겠다”고 밝혔다.
