브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 호준석 국민의힘 대변인은 19일 "이재명 대통령과 이시바 일본 총리가 정상회담에서 북한 문제를 포함한 지정학적 위기에 대응하기 위해 한미일 공조를 지속 유지·발전시키기로 한 것을 환영한다"고 밝혔다.
호 대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "이재명 대통령이 '작은 차이를 넘어 한국과 일본이 여러 면에서 협력하기를 기대한다'고 밝히고 셔틀외교 재개 의지도 드러냈으며, 한·미 공군과 일본 항공자위대가 북한의 핵·미사일 위협을 억제하기 위한 연합 공중훈련까지 실시했다"며 이같이 말했다.
호 대변인은 "우리 눈앞의 안보 위협은 북한 정권"이라며 "김정은 위원장이 푸틴 러시아 대통령 최측근인 쇼이구를 만나 양국 간 완전한 견해 일치를 이뤘다고 밝힌 만큼, 북한이 우크라이나에 병력을 더 파견하고 러시아는 첨단 군사기술을 북한에 추가로 이전할 것으로 보인다"고 지적했다.
이어 "김정은 정권은 이미 수백 기의 핵폭탄으로 대한민국 공격을 공언하고 있으며, 추가로 우라늄 농축 시설까지 건설하고 있다"면서 "전 세계에서 가장 비이성적인 정권의 핵과 미사일이 대한민국의 위대한 성취를 몇 초 만에 잿더미로 만들 수 있는 상황이다. 이러한 현실은 우리가 과거사 문제에도 불구하고 한미일 군사협력을 강화해야 하는 이유"라고 설명했다.
호 대변인은 "이재명 대통령이 이 방향으로 나아가기로 한 결정을 높이 평가하고 환영한다"라며 "국가안보와 국민의 생명과 재산을 지키는 일에 여야가 따로 있을 수 없다"고 했다.
다만 그는 "전 정부 시절 이재명 민주당 대표는 한일 셔틀외교 복원을 '빵셔틀 외교'라 비난했고, 한미일 정상회의를 '역사의 수레바퀴를 해방 이전으로 돌리는 패착', 한미일 군사훈련을 '자위대 군홧발이 한반도를 더럽힌다'고 주장했다"라며 "민주당은 한일정상회담을 '조공', '쪽박', '나라를 팔았다'고 조롱했고, 대통령 탄핵사유에 한미일 안보협력을 포함시키며 국제사회에 충격을 줬다"고 비판하기도 했다.
