충남 예산군이 산성2리 일원을 대상으로 범죄로부터 자유로운 마을을 조성하기 위한 환경개선 사업에 본격 착수했다.
이번 사업은 법무부의 ‘2025년 범죄예방 환경개선 자문사업(컨설팅)’에 선정된 데 따른 후속 조치로 진행되는 것으로, 주민 주도성과 전문가 협업을 바탕으로 하는 지역 맞춤형 CPTED(범죄예방환경설계) 모델 구축에 초점이 맞춰져 있다.
군은 지난 5월 주민을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 마을 내 범죄 피해 경험과 불안 요소 등을 면밀히 파악했고, 이어 6월 19일에는 산성2리 마을회관에서 1차 주민 교육을 개최했다.
이날 교육에는 건축공간연구원, 예산경찰서 관계자와 함께 지역 주민 30여 명이 참석해 마을의 치안 환경에 대한 솔직한 의견을 나누고, 범죄취약 요인에 대한 분석과 개선 방안 논의가 활발히 이뤄졌다.
특히 이번 교육은 주민들이 직접 마을 문제를 진단하고 해결방안을 제시하는 워크숍 형식으로 진행돼 실질적 참여가 강화됐다는 평가다.

산성2리 이장은 “군 관계자와 자문단과 함께한 이번 회의를 통해 마을 안전의 중요성을 다시금 실감하는 뜻깊은 시간이었다”며 “궁극적으로는 범죄가 없고 폐쇄회로(CC)TV도 필요 없는 안전한 마을이 되도록 주민들과 함께 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
군 관계자는 “주민들의 적극적인 참여를 통해 사업에 대한 높은 관심과 기대를 확인할 수 있었다”며 “책임감을 가지고 주민 중심의 사업을 충실히 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.
