도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 8일(현지시간) "한국은 자국 방위비를 스스로 부담해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 워싱톤 백악관에서 열린 내각회의에서 "한국은 부유한 나라"라며 "우리는 한국을 재건했으나 그들은 매우 적은 금액을 지불했다"며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 “나는 그들에게 수십억 달러를 지급토록 만들었는데 조 바이든이 집권하면서 그걸 취소했다”며 “(한국이) 1년에 100억 달러(약 13조7천억)를 지불해야 한다 생각하며 그들(한국)은 난리 났지만 30억 달러(인상)에 동의했다”고 전했다.
이어 "거의 모든 국가가 우리에게 관세를 부과해왔다"며 "우리는 수십 년 동안 모든 국가와 (무역) 적자를 기록해왔고, 나쁜 협정을 한 큰 모델처럼 여겨져 왔다"고 지적했다.
