【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=구 남구가 관내 초·중학교 학생들을 대상으로 미국 문화와 영어를 현장에서 직접 체험할 수 있는 특별한 프로그램을 운영한다.
남구청은 올해 ‘글로벌 앞산캠프’에 초·중학교 6개교, 150명의 학생이 참여한다고 15일 밝혔다. 지난해 4개교 117명이 참여한 데 이어, 학교와 학생들의 높은 호응과 미군 대구기지의 적극적인 협력으로 올해는 캠프 규모를 더욱 확대했다.
‘글로벌 앞산캠프’는 미군 부대가 밀집한 남구의 지역적 특색을 살려, 학생들에게 미국 문화 체험과 생활 영어 교육의 기회를 제공하는 프로그램이다. 지난 2007년 처음 시작돼 지금까지 총 3,000명이 넘는 학생들이 참여했다.
참가 학생들은 캠프 워커와 캠프 헨리 등 지역 미군 기지 내에서 사령관실, 병영, 식당 등 주요 시설을 둘러보고, 미군·카투사들과 함께 볼링과 농구 같은 스포츠 활동도 즐긴다. 영어로 토론을 하고, 기지 내 소방·경찰 시설을 탐방하며 다양한 직업을 간접 체험할 수 있는 시간도 마련돼 있다.
이번 128기 캠프에는 대봉초등학교 25명의 학생이 참여해, 총 4주간 영어 중심의 현장 체험활동에 나선다. 프로그램은 모두 영어로 진행되며, 미군 장병과의 실시간 소통을 통해 자연스럽게 글로벌 감각을 키우는 것이 핵심이다.
조재구 남구청장은 “단순한 영어 수업이 아니라 몸으로 부딪치며 배우는 글로벌 체험”이라며 “앞으로도 남구만의 특색 있는 프로그램을 통해 학생들에게 다양한 진로와 세계를 만나는 기회를 제공하겠다”고 말했다.

There is also time to discuss in English, visit fire and police facilities on base, and indirectly experience various jobs.
25 students from Daebong Elementary School will participate in this 128th camp, and will engage in field experience activities centered on English for a total of 4 weeks. The program is conducted entirely in English, and the key is to naturally develop a global sense through real-time communication with U.S. soldiers.
Nam-gu Mayor Cho Jae-gu said, “It is not a simple English class, but a global experience where you learn by getting involved with your body,” and added, “We will continue to provide students with opportunities to encounter various career paths and the world through unique programs unique to Nam-gu.”
