【브레이크뉴스 김천】진예솔 기자=세계 20개국 청소년들이 한국의 새마을운동을 배우고 문화를 체험하는 국제 교류 프로그램이 구미·김천 일대에서 열렸다.
‘2025 새마을 글로벌 투어’는 지난 10일부터 12일까지 3일간 진행됐다. 위더스가 주최하고 국제청소년연합(IYF) 경북지부가 주관했으며, 구미대학교·김천대학교·구미문화원이 함께했다. 이번 행사에는 국내외 청소년 150여 명이 참여해 언어와 문화를 넘어 하나 되는 시간을 가졌다.
참가자들은 구미 새마을테마공원, 김천 직지사, 농심 구미공장 등을 방문해 한국의 전통과 산업, 새마을운동의 의미를 직접 체험했다.
마지막 날 열린 ‘세계문화페스티벌’은 우크라이나 무용단 ‘므리야(Mriya)’의 공연을 비롯해 짐바브웨 아카펠라, 한국 전통 풍물과 트로트 등 다채로운 무대로 장식됐다. 구미시 평생학습원 대강당에는 지역 어르신들과 시민들도 함께하며 세대를 아우르는 문화 축제가 펼쳐졌다.
개막식에는 김성조 전 국회의원, 윤옥현 김천대 총장 등 각계 인사가 참석해 참가자들을 격려했다. 이헌목 IYF 경북지부장은 “성공한 삶은 나를 위한 삶이 아니라 남을 위한 삶”이라며 ‘이타적 삶’의 가치를 전했다.
지역 고교생·대학생 자원봉사자 50여 명도 기획과 운영을 도우며 의미를 더했고, 지역 기업과 기관들도 행사에 적극 협력했다. 청소년들은 농심 공장 견학으로 K-푸드 산업을 이해하고, 영동 솔밭에서는 협동 활동으로 우정을 쌓았다. 마지막 날에는 직지사에서 한복을 입고 전통문화를 체험했다.
이번 투어는 단순한 여행을 넘어 세계 청소년들이 한국에서 만나 소통하고 공감한 뜻깊은 시간이었다. 우수 서포터즈에게는 해외 장관상과 총장상, 국회의원상 등이 수여될 예정이다.

An international exchange program where youth from 20 countries around the world learned about Korea’s Saemaul Movement and experienced its culture was held in the Gumi and Gimcheon areas.
The ‘2025 Saemaul Global Tour’ took place for three days from the 10th to the 12th. Hosted by Withers and organized by the Gyeongbuk branch of the International Youth Fellowship (IYF), Gumi University, Gimcheon University, and Gumi Cultural Center participated in the event. Approximately 150 youths from Korea and abroad participated in the event and had a time of unity beyond language and culture.
Participants visited Gumi Saemaul Theme Park, Gimcheon Jikjisa, Nongshim Gumi Factory, etc. to directly experience Korea’s traditions, industry, and the meaning of the Saemaul Movement.
The ‘World Culture Festival’ held on the last day featured a variety of performances including a performance by the Ukrainian dance group ‘Mriya,’ Zimbabwean a cappella, Korean traditional music, and trot. In the main auditorium of the Gumi City Lifelong Learning Center, a cultural festival spanning generations was held with the participation of local seniors and citizens.
At the opening ceremony, figures from various fields, including former National Assembly member Kim Seong-jo and President Yoon Ok-hyun of Gimcheon University, attended and encouraged the participants. IYF Gyeongbuk Branch Director Lee Heon-mok said, “A successful life is not a life for myself, but a life for others,” and conveyed the value of an “altruistic life.”
About 50 local high school and college volunteers also helped with planning and operation, adding meaning, and local businesses and organizations also actively cooperated with the event. The youth learned about the K-food industry through a tour of the Nongshim factory, and built friendships through cooperative activities at Yeongdong Solbat. On the last day, they wore hanbok and experienced traditional culture at Jikjisa Temple.
This tour was more than just a simple trip; it was a meaningful time for youth from around the world to meet, communicate, and empathize in Korea. Outstanding supporters will be awarded awards such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award, President’s Award, and National Assemblyman Award.
