이재명 대통령, 국정원 개혁방향 제시
지난 6월25일치 국정원 보도자료(이하 보도자료의 주요 내용 소개)에 따르면, 이종석 국정원장은 취임사를 통해 “우리는 중동 정세 불안, ‘글로벌 보호주의’ 확대, 미중(美中) 전략 경쟁 심화, 적대적 남북관계 등 수많은 도전에 직면해 있다. 국가와 국민에 대한 헌신과 정보요원으로서의 역량을 국민께 결과로 보여드려야 한다”면서 “‘안전하고 평화로운 대한민국 만들기’와 ‘국익중심 실용외교 지원’을 국정원이 반드시 완수해야 할 시대적 소명”으로 제시했다.

국정원은 지난 7월17일, ‘국민의정부’ 시절 제정하여 참여정부 시기까지 원훈으로 삼았던 ‘정보는 국력이다’를 복원했다. 이날 오전에 진행된 원훈석 제막식에는 이종석 국정원장과 장종한 양지회장 그리고 다수의 직원 대표들이 참석했다. 복원된 원훈은 ‘국민의정부’ 시절인 1998년 5월, 직원 의견수렴과 국민 공모를 거쳐 제정됐다. 국가발전의 원동력으로서 정보의 역할이 강조됐다. 이는 ‘국가정보원’으로 개칭하면서 같이 바꾼 원훈이기도 하다.
