브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 현대백화점그룹이 광주광역시, 사단법인 생명의숲과 도심 속 유휴부지에 도시공원 ‘리그린 파크’를 조성한다.
현대백화점그룹 지주회사인 현대지에프홀딩스는 22일 광주광역시청에서 광주광역시, 생명의숲과 함께 리그린 파크 조성을 위한 3자 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이날 협약식에는 장호진 현대지에프홀딩스 사장과 강기정 광주광역시장, 허상만 생명의숲 이사장 등이 참석했다.
이번 업무협약은 현대백화점그룹이 지난해 충북 청주시에 이어 두 번째로 추진하는 리그린 파크 조성 사업의 일환으로 이뤄졌다. 리그린 파크는 현대백화점그룹 ESG 브랜드 ‘리그린’(Re.Green)을 활용해 지역사회에 방치된 유휴부지를 민관이 협력해 ‘도시 숲’으로 복원하는 사업 모델이다.
광주광역시 북구 신용동 산 35-1 일대에 약 2만7869㎡(약 8400평) 규모로 조성되는 리그린 파크는 내년 6월에 선보일 예정이다. 잔디광장과 맨발 숲 산책로, 유아 숲 놀이터, 자연 체험학습 공간, 수경 시설 등이 어우러진 도심 속 힐링공간으로 조성되며, 빗물 재순환 시스템을 통해 물을 저장·활용하는 친환경 설계도 적용될 계획이다.
장호진 현대지에프홀딩스 사장은 “리그린 파크는 단순한 도시녹지 조성을 넘어, 지역사회와 함께 기후 위기에 대응하고자 하는 현대백화점그룹의 친환경 실천 의지를 담고 있다”며 “앞으로도 국공유림에서의 ‘탄소중립의 숲’ 조성은 물론 도심 유휴부지를 숲으로 복원하는 친환경 활동을 통해 미래세대를 위한 지속가능한 환경 조성에 앞장서 나갈 것이다”고 말했다.
한편, 현대백화점그룹은 ESG 사회공헌 브랜드인 ‘위드림’(We.Dream)을 통한 사회공헌사업도 활발히 수행하고 있다. 특히, 광주시민의 안전을 위한 사업도 활발히 추진하고 있다. 2023년에는 교통약자를 위한 ‘스마트쉘터’를 설치해 도심 내 안전 쉼터를 마련했고, 올해 하반기에는 초등학교 인근에 ‘스쿨존 교통안전 솔루션’ 인프라를 구축해 초등학생들의 안전한 등하교 환경을 조성할 예정이다.
