(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 계양구가 22일, 윤환 계양구청장을 포함한 구 대표단이 국제우호도시인 라오스 사바나켓주 카이손폼비한시를 공식 방문해 교육, 의료, 문화 분야의 실질적인 협력 방안을 논의하며 국제 교류의 새로운 지평을 열었다.
계양구에 따르면, 이번 방문은 7월 3일부터 7일까지 진행됐으며, 계양구 의회를 비롯해 경인여자대학교 간호학과 의료봉사단, 세종병원 심장병 진료팀, 신한은행이 함께 참여해 민·관·학이 연합한 ‘사람 중심의 교류’라는 평가를 받고 있다.
○ 교육 환경 개선... “더 다양한 공부를 할 수 있을 것 같아요!”
계양구는 신한은행과 새마을금고의 후원금을 활용해 카이손폼비한시 카오카드 고등학교 교실 증축 사업을 지원하며, 열악한 현지 교육 환경 개선에 앞장섰다.
이번 사업을 통해 보다 넓고 쾌적한 학습 공간이 마련되었으며, 컴퓨터와 빔프로젝터 등 교육기자재도 함께 기증되어 학생들의 학습 여건이 크게 향상됐다.
새 교실에서 컴퓨터를 직접 사용해 본 한 학생은 “시원하고 깨끗한 교실과 컴퓨터가 생겨 앞으로는 더 다양한 공부를 해볼 수 있을 것 같아요”라며 기대감을 드러냈다.
카이손폼비한시 교육청 관계자는 “우리 마을은 교육 환경이 매우 열악해 학생들이 제대로 교육받기 어려운 여건이었습니다. 계양구에서 이렇게 좋은 교실을 만들어주고, 필요한 교육 물품까지 지원해 주셔서 감사드립니다. 아이들에게 큰 기회를 주셨습니다.”고 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

세종병원 심장병 진료팀은 현지 주립병원에서 심장질환이 의심되는 아동을 대상으로 현장 초음파 진료와 정밀검진을 실시했다. 현지에서는 접하기 어려운 전문 진료를 통해 조기 진단이 가능했으며, 일부 아동은 한국으로 초청해 수술을 진행할 예정이다.
경인여자대학교 간호학과 의료봉사단은 카오카드 고등학교에서 학생들을 대상으로 신장·체중, 시력·청력, 색맹 검사 등 기본 건강검진을 실시하고, 지역 주민과 교직원을 대상으로는 혈압과 혈당 측정을 통해 주요 건강 문제를 점검했다.
의료봉사에 참여한 한 간호학과 학생은 “질병이 있어도 치료받지 못하는 현장을 직접 보고, 우리나라에서는 흔히 받을 수 있는 검사를 신기해하는 주민들을 만나 의료환경의 중요성을 절실히 느꼈다”며 “간호사로서의 책임감을 다시 되새기는 계기가 됐다”고 말했다.
