충남 공주시를 사칭해 지역 상인을 대상으로 각종 물품을 요구하는 사기 사례가 최근 잇따르면서 시민들의 각별한 주의가 요구되고 있다. 범행 수법이 갈수록 정교해지고 있어 시가 진상 파악과 재발 방지를 위한 대응에 나섰다.

피해 대상은 주로 지역 내 소상공인과 자영업자다. 사칭범은 전화나 문자메시지를 통해 '독거노인 지원용 우울증 예방 약품', '재해 이재민용 긴급 구호 물품', '반찬 지원', '다육식물', '지물포 공구세트' 등 구체적인 물품 명목을 들며 물품 협조를 요청한다. 심지어 시청 명의의 공문과 물품 구매 확약서를 조작해 신뢰를 더욱 끌어올리고, 공주시장의 직인이 찍힌 서류를 위조해 보내는 사례도 적발됐다.
공주시 관계자는 “시청이 민간 업체에 개별적으로 연락해 물품 구매를 요청하는 일은 결코 없다”며 “이 같은 행위는 명백한 사기이며, 관련 피해가 확산되지 않도록 지역 상인회를 중심으로 주의를 당부했다”고 밝혔다.
이어 그는 “사칭범들이 시의 공식 사업인 ‘민생 회복 지원금’ 지급이나 ‘집중호우 피해 복구’ 등 민감한 사안을 악용해 신뢰를 얻으려는 정황도 확인됐다”고 설명했다.
