세계국회의장회의 참석을 위해 스위스 등 순방에 나선 우원식 국회의장은 28일(현지시간) 루마니아 수도 부쿠레슈티에 소재한 대통령실에서 니쿠쇼르 다니엘 단 루마니아 대통령을 만나 방산, 에너지, 인프라 등 다양한 분야의 양국 간 협력에 대해 논의했다.

우 의장은 "5월 26일 대통령 취임을 진심으로 축하한다"며, "올해 수교 35주년을 맞이한 양국은 2008년 전략적 동반자 관계를 맺고 방산, 원전 등 전략적 분야에서 양국 관계를 강화해 나가고 있다"고 말했다.
이어 "대한민국이 오랜 세월 외세의 침략을 견뎌내면서도 정체성과 전통을 지켜낸 것처럼, 루마니아 역시 수많은 도전 속에서도 국가의 정통성과 주권을 지켜왔다"며, "한국과 루마니아는 작년 말 어려웠던 국내 상황 속에서도 민주주의의 회복력을 보여주며 신정부 출범을 맞이했다는 공통점이 있다는 점에서, 양국 간 소통과 교류는 특별한 의미를 지닌다"고 강조했다.

이어 우 의장은 "한수원이 지난 12월 수주한 체르나보더 원전 1호기 설비개선 사업, ‘23년 5월 체결된 부산항만공사와 콘스탄차항만공사 간 MOU 등에 따라 루마니아에 진출하게 될 우리 기업 인력들의 체류 및 안전에 대해 루측의 적극적 지원을 바란다"고 당부했다.
이에 단 대통령은 "최근 한국의 기업들의 루마니아 진출도 눈에 띄게 늘어나는 등 양국 간 경제 협력의 지속적인 성과가 있었다"며, "특히 최근 루마니아는 재생에너지 분야 등에서 여러 도전에 직면해 있는데, 한국의 도움과 관심이 필요할 수 있다"고 말했다. 이에 우 의장은 "한국도 최근 에너지 전환과 재생에너지 기술 개발을 적극적으로 추진하고 있으며 재생에너지 부분에서 양국이 협력해 나갈 수 있을 것"이라고 답했다.
이날 회동에서 우 의장은 한반도 평화 관련 "최근 북한의 대러 파병 및 무기지원에 대해 걱정들이 많아 한반도 평화와 긴장완화를 위해 특별한 관심과 지지를 보내주길 바란다"며, 이에 단 대통령은 한반도 평화의 필요성에 대한 공감을 표했다.

이 자리에서 우 의장은 "루마니아 동포 사회가 비록 규모는 크지 않지만 한인회를 중심으로 매년 문화교류의 밤 행사를 개최하는 등 많은 노력을 해왔다"며, "동포 여러분이 그간 각 분야에서 한국을 대표하는 민간 외교관으로서 큰 역할을 했고, 앞으로도 한국의 국격을 높이고 양국 관계를 한 단계 더 발전시키는 데 든든한 버팀목이 되어 줄 것이라 믿는다"고 힘주어 말했다.
