한설 예비역 장군(육군 소장)은 7월 30일 인터넷 저널인 페이스북에 “미국의 목표가 이재명 정권을 흔드는 것이라면, 그래도 한국은 저력이 있다” 제목의 글을 게재했다.

한설 예비역 장군은 “미국이 이재명 정권을 흔들려고 한다면 이번 한미관세협상은 성공하지 못할 가능성이 높다. 미국은 한국에게 기존에 선언한 관세를 그대로 때릴 가능성이 높다. 미국은 이를 통해 한국민들이 이재명 정권에 대한 불만과 불신의 분위기를 조성할 가능성이 높다고 생각한다. 트럼프는 7월 31일까지 한미 간 관세협정이 체결되지 않을 것이라고 발언했다”고 분석하고 “트럼프와 미국이 이재명 정권을 강력하게 압박하고 흔들려고 하는 가장 큰 이유는 한국을 중국과의 군사적 충돌에 직접적으로 동원하기 위한 목적이 아닌가 한다. 미국이 한국을 쉽게 통제하기 위해서는 한국에 강력한 정치적 리더십이 등장하지 않아야 한다. 미국은 한국의 현재 정치적 리더십을 끊임없이 흔들어 대야 하는 것”이라고 지적했다.
