【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=영진전문대학교(총장 최재영) 산하 대구경북영어마을(경북 칠곡군)에서 특별한 국제교류 프로그램이 진행됐다.
지난 4일부터 8일까지 대구경북영어마을에서는 충북 보은교육지원청 소속 초중학생 20명과 일본 구마모토시 초중학생 12명이 함께 참여한 '한일 연합 영어체험 캠프'가 열렸다.
4박 5일 동안 진행된 이 프로그램을 통해 참가자들은 원어민과의 영어 수업뿐만 아니라 다양한 공동 활동을 경험하며 언어 능력 향상과 문화적 다양성 이해라는 두 마리 토끼를 잡을 수 있었다.
첫날 저녁에는 아이스브레이킹을 위한 '스캐터고리' 게임이 펼쳐졌다. 한일 학생들이 섞인 팀을 구성해 음식, 인물, 음악, 패스트푸드 등 다양한 주제를 영어로 답하며 협력과 창의성을 발휘하는 시간을 가졌다.
6일부터는 양국 중학생 11명으로 구성된 특별 클래스가 운영되어 더욱 심도 있는 영어체험 활동이 이어졌다.
일본 구마모토 지역 학생들이 기존의 미국 하와이 영어연수 대신 올해 처음으로 대구경북영어마을을 선택했다는 점이 눈에 띈다.
인솔자인 유미 니시무라 씨(일본 영어학원 원장)는 "한국에서의 영어캠프는 처음 경험이지만, 프로그램의 구성과 운영 수준이 뛰어나 아이들에게 잊을 수 없는 추억을 선사하고 있다"고 높이 평가했다.
박재홍 대구경북영어마을 원장(교수)은 "이번 캠프는 단순한 영어 학습을 넘어서 진정한 국제 교류의 의미를 되새기는 소중한 경험이었다"며 "앞으로도 글로벌 인재 육성을 위한 다양한 국제 프로그램을 지속 확대할 예정"이라고 향후 계획을 밝혔다.

A special international exchange program was held at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village (Chilgok County, Gyeongbuk), affiliated with Yeungjin College (President Choi Jae-young).
From the 4th to the 8th, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village hosted the "Korea-Japan Joint English Experience Camp," with 20 elementary and middle school students from the Boeun Office of Education in North Chungcheong Province and 12 elementary and middle school students from Kumamoto City, Japan.
The program, which ran for four nights and five days, provided participants with not only English classes with native speakers but also a variety of collaborative activities, allowing them to simultaneously improve their language skills and gain an understanding of cultural diversity.
On the first evening, an icebreaker game called "Scattergories" was held. Mixed teams of Korean and Japanese students formed, and they demonstrated collaboration and creativity by answering questions in English on topics such as food, people, music, and fast food.
Starting on the 6th, a special class comprised of 11 middle school students from both countries continued, providing even more in-depth English experience.
It's noteworthy that students from Kumamoto, Japan, chose the Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village for the first time this year, instead of their previous English training program in Hawaii.
Yumi Nishimura, director of a Japanese English language institute and leader of the camp, praised the program, saying, "This is our first time hosting an English camp in Korea, but the program's excellent structure and management have created unforgettable memories for the children."
Professor Park Jae-hong, director of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village, said, "This camp was a valuable experience that went beyond simple English language learning and truly reflected on the meaning of international exchange. We plan to continue expanding our diverse international programs to foster global talent."
