브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 정부 첫 사면심사위원회가 가동된다. 특히 조국 전 조국혁신당 대표가 이번 8·15 광복절 특별사면 심사 대상에 포함된 것으로 전해지면서, 실제 사면까지 이뤄질지 관심이 쏠리고 있다.
법무부는 7일 오후 정부과천청사에서 사면심사위원회를 열고 정치인, 민생사범 등에 대한 특별사면 및 복권 인사 선정 논의에 돌입했다.
심사위에서 결정된 사면 명단은 정성호 법무부 장관이 이재명 대통령에게 보고한 뒤, 오는 12일 열리는 국무회의에서 심의와 의결을 거쳐 이 대통령이 대상자를 최종 확정한다.
사면은 대통령 고유권한인 만큼, 법무부 사면심사위는 사면 규모와 대상자를 대통령실과 사전 조율을 거쳐 최종 결정한다는 방침이다.
특히 정치권의 시각은 조국 전 대표의 사면 여부에 쏠려있다. 조국 전 대표는 지난해 12월 대법원에서 자녀 입시 비리 및 청와대 감찰 무마 혐의로 징역 2년형을 확정받고 복역 중이다. 만기 출소일은 내년 12월 15일이다.
만약 조 전 대표가 이번 사면 대상자에 이름을 올린다면 약 8개월 만에 풀려나게 된다.
더불어민주당 등 진보진영에서는 조국 전 대표는 윤석열 정권 검찰권 남용의 최대 피해자라며 사면을 요구하고 있다.
문재인 전 대통령도 지난 5일 우상호 대통령실 정무수석과 만난 자리에서 조 전 대표의 사면 필요성을 언급하기도 했다.
다만 형기의 절반도 채우지 않은 조 전 대표를 사면하는데 대한 반대 여론도 적지 않아, 이재명 대통령은 막판까지 고심할 것으로 보인다.
한편 강유정 대통령실 대변인은 이날 브리핑에서 "(오는 12일) 국무회의에서 의결된 이후 사면 대상을 공식 발표를 할 것"이라며 "그 과정에서 대통령의 사면권 행사에 대한 최종적인 결심이 있을 것"이라고 전했다.
