브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정부가 오는 8·15 광복절을 앞두고 특별사면 대상자를 11일 발표했다.
정성호 법무부 장관은 이날 정부서울청사에서 브리핑을 열고 오는 15일자로 2188명에 대한 특별사면을 단행한다고 밝혔다.
앞서 이재명 대통령은 이날 오후 열린 임시 국무회의에서 이들 명단이 포함된 8·15 광복절 특별사면안을 의결했다.
사면 대상자 중 정치인과 주요공직자 등은 총 27명이 포함됐다.
조국 전 조국혁신당 대표와 정경심 전 동양대 교수 부부, 윤미향 전 의원, 조희연 전 서울시 교육감 등 여권 인사들이 대거 포함됐다.
정부는 "국민통합을 동력으로 삼아 내란 위기를 극복하기 위하여 국정수행 과정에서의 잘못으로 처벌받았으나, 장기간 공직자로서 국가와 사회를 위하여 헌신한 주요 공직자들을 비롯한 여야 정치인 등을 사면함으로써 통합과 화합의 전기를 마련했다"고 설명했다.
또한 잔형집행면제 및 복권 대상에는 조국 전 대표와 백원우 전 대통령실 민정비서관, 하영제 전 의원, 형현기 전 대통령실 행정관 등이 포함됐다.
조국 전 대표는 지난해 12월 대법원에서 자녀 입시 비리 및 청와대 감찰 무마 혐의로 징역 2년이 확정돼 복역 중이다. 만기 출소일은 내년 12월이지만 잔형집행면제 및 복권 대상으로 결정됐다.
법무부 관계자는 조 전 대표 사면 결정에 대해 "사면 대상은 해당 사안 내용의 경중뿐 아니라 국민 통합 측면, 대상자의 국가 사회 기여도, 각계의 다양한 의견을 종합적으로 고려해 대통령의 정치적 결단으로 결정된다"고 전했다.
형을 절반도 채우지 못했는데 사면하는게 맞느냐는 지적엔 "과거에도 형집행률이 낮은 경우에도 사면된 전례는 있다"고 해명했다.
야권에서는 앞서 송언석 국민의힘 비상대책위원장은 강훈식 대통령 비서실장에게 정찬민·홍문종·심학봉 전 의원을 사면해달라는 취지의 문자메시지를 보냈던 이들 3명 모두 사면 대상에 올랐다.
형선고실효 및 복권 대상에는 윤미향 전 의원과 정경심 전 교수, 조희연 전 교육감, 최강욱 전 의원, 이용구 전 법무부 차관 등이 포함됐다.
일반 복권 대상에는 송광호 전 의원, 은수미 전 성남시장, 윤건영 의원, 김은경 전 환경부 장관, 문형표 전 보건복지부 장관, 황희석 전 법무부 인권국장 등이 포함됐다.
친명(친이재명)계로 분류되는 이화영 전 경기도 평화부지사는 사면 대상에서 빠졌다. 이 전 부지사는 대북송금 사건으로 지난 6월 징역 7년 8개월 형을 확정받고 수감 중이다.
경제인은 최신원 전 SK네트웍스 회장과 박상진 전 삼성전자 대외협력담당 회장, 최지성 전 삼성그룹 미래전략실장, 현재현 전 동양그룹 회장, 박인규 전 대구은행장 등 16명이 사면 대상에 올랐다.
한편 사면 대상자들은 14일에서 15일로 넘어가는 정각에 사면이 시행될 예정이다. 조 전 대표와 같이 잔형 집행이 면제된 경우엔 당일 바로 출소하게 된다.

Special Pardons for Liberation Day Include Cho Kuk and His Wife, Yoon Mee-hyang, and Choi Kang-wook
The government announced the list of individuals eligible for special pardons ahead of Liberation Day on August 15th.
Minister of Justice Jeong Sung-ho held a briefing at the Government Complex Seoul that day and announced that 2,188 individuals will be granted special pardons as of August 15th.
President Lee Jae-myung approved the special pardons for Liberation Day on August 15th, including these individuals, at an extraordinary cabinet meeting held that afternoon.
A total of 27 individuals, including politicians and key public officials, are among those eligible for pardons.

Furthermore, those eligible for pardons and reinstatement include former leader Cho Kuk, former Senior Secretary to the President for Civil Affairs Baek Won-woo, former lawmaker Ha Young-je, and former administrative officer in the Presidential Office Hyung Hyun-ki.
Former leader Cho Kuk is currently serving a two-year prison sentence, upheld by the Supreme Court in December of last year for charges of college admissions corruption and the cover-up of a Blue House inspection. Although his release date is set for December of next year, he has been granted pardons and reinstatement.
A Ministry of Justice official stated regarding the decision to pardon former leader Cho, "The decision to pardon is made by the President's political decision, taking into account not only the severity of the case, but also the national unity of the individual, his or her contributions to the nation and society, and the diverse opinions of various sectors."
In response to the question of whether it was appropriate to pardon someone who had not even completed half of their sentence, he explained, "There have been cases in the past where pardons were granted even when the execution rate was low."
On the opposition side, Song Eon-seok, the People Power Party's emergency response committee chairman, sent a text message to Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik requesting pardons for former lawmakers Jeong Chan-min, Hong Moon-jong, and Shim Hak-bong. All three individuals were included in the pardon.
Those eligible for sentence lapse and reinstatement include former lawmaker Yoon Mee-hyang, former professor Jeong Kyung-sim, former Superintendent of Education Cho Hee-yeon, former lawmaker Choi Kang-wook, and former Vice Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu.
Those eligible for general reinstatement include former lawmaker Song Kwang-ho, former Seongnam Mayor Eun Soo-mi, lawmaker Yoon Kun-young, former Minister of Environment Kim Eun-kyung, former Minister of Health and Welfare Moon Hyung-pyo, and former Director of the Human Rights Bureau of the Ministry of Justice Hwang Hee-seok.
Former Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Peace, Lee Hwa-young, who is considered a pro-Lee Jae-myung faction member, was not included in the pardon. The former vice governor is currently serving a seven-year and eight-month prison sentence, confirmed in June for a remittance to North Korea.
Sixteen businesspeople have been pardoned, including former SK Networks Chairman Choi Shin-won, former Samsung Electronics External Cooperation Chairman Park Sang-jin, former Samsung Group Future Strategy Office Director Choi Gee-sung, former Dongyang Group Chairman Hyun Jae-hyun, and former Daegu Bank President Park In-gyu.
Meanwhile, the pardons are scheduled to take effect on the 15th, the day after the 14th. Those who, like former Chairman Cho, are exempt from serving their remaining sentences will be released on the same day.
