【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=한국가스공사(사장 최연혜)가 지난 11일 경북대학교 지역사회공헌센터, 이음발달지원센터와 ‘느린학습자 멘토링 사업’ 업무협약을 체결했다.
‘느린학습자’란 IQ 71~84 사이로 지적 장애는 아니지만 인지 능력에서 어려움을 겪어 의사소통, 대인관계, 사회 적응에 어려움이 있는 이들을 뜻한다.
대구 북구 이음발달지원센터 읍내점에서 열린 협약식에는 한국가스공사 상생기획부 이과형 부장, 경북대 대외협력홍보과 김성중 과장, 이음발달지원센터 김혜진 대표 등 관계자 10여 명이 참석했다.
지난해 ‘대구지역문제해결플랫폼’을 통해 발굴된 이 사업은 지역 대학생과 느린학습자 1:1 멘토링을 통해 인지 기능 향상, 마음 챙김, 동아리 활동 등으로 사회 적응력을 높이는 데 목적이 있다.
가스공사는 올해 1천만 원을 지원해 경북대 재학생 10명과 느린학습자 아동·청소년 10명으로 구성된 멘토링 프로그램을 운영한다.
특히 지난해 기본 소양 학습 중심에서 벗어나 요리, 교통, 위생 등 생활 기술부터 지역 문화시설 이용, 대중교통 이용, 식사 주문 같은 실생활 체험까지 단계별 사회 적응력 향상 활동을 강화할 계획이다.
가스공사는 9월 중 멘토·멘티 참여자를 모집하고, 11월까지 멘토링을 진행한다. 아울러 멘토-멘티 중심의 느린학습자 인식 개선 굿즈 아이디어 대회를 열고, 우수작을 굿즈로 제작해 시민에게 배포하는 캠페인도 연말까지 이어간다.
가스공사 관계자는 “지난해 첫 시행한 사업에 높은 만족도를 얻어 올해도 이어가게 됐다”며 “앞으로도 미래 세대 건강한 성장을 돕는 다양한 사회공헌 사업을 지속하겠다”고 말했다.

This project, discovered last year through the "Daegu Regional Problem Solving Platform," aims to enhance social adaptability by providing one-on-one mentoring between local university students and slow learners, promoting cognitive function, mindfulness, and club activities.
This year, KOGAS will provide 10 million won in support to operate a mentoring program for 10 Kyungpook National University students and 10 children and adolescents who are slow learners.
Moving beyond last year's focus on basic literacy, the program will focus on strengthening activities to improve social adaptability step by step, encompassing life skills like cooking, transportation, and hygiene, as well as practical experiences like utilizing local cultural facilities, using public transportation, and ordering meals.
KOGAS will recruit mentors and mentees in September and conduct mentoring until November. Furthermore, a mentor-mentee-led contest to raise awareness of slow learners will be held, with the winning entries converted into merchandise and distributed to the public. The campaign will continue until the end of the year.
A KOGAS official stated, "The program, which was first launched last year, received high satisfaction and was therefore renewed this year. We will continue various social contribution projects to support the healthy growth of future generations."
