그러면서 "그동안 논의된 취수원 이전은 오염원을 그대로 둔 채 '깨끗한 물만 찾아 이동'하는 임시방편에 불과했다"며 "새로운 취수원 지역에 동일한 갈등과 위험을 떠넘기는 행위"라고 비판했다.
단체는 취수원 이전 논의보다 우선돼야 할 과제로 낙동강 산업단지 유해물질 차단 방안 마련, 녹조 문제 해결을 위한 취·양수시설 개선, 보 수문 개방, 보 처리 방안 등을 제시했다.
또한 "낙동강과 취수원 문제는 지난 수십 년간 지역 정치권의 쟁점으로 이용되며 지역 갈등과 불신만 심화시켰다"며 "새로운 정권 역시 '낙동강 재자연화를 통한 수질개선이 먼저'라는 원칙을 외면해서는 안 된다"고 강조했다.
구미YMCA는 "수질개선이 성공적으로 이뤄진다면 대구 취수원 이전의 필요성은 사라진다"며 정부에 정치적 접근을 멈추고 근본적 수질개선에 나설 것을 촉구했다.
