브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 특별검사팀이 김건희 여사에게 줄 선물용 고가 금품을 전달받은 뒤 통일교(세계평화통일가정연합)의 각종 현안을 청탁하려 한 의혹을 받는 ‘건진법사’ 전성배 씨에 대해 구속영장을 청구했다.
19일 법조계에 따르면 김건희 특검팀(특별검사 민중기)은 이날 오후 전 씨에게 특정범죄 가중처벌 등에 관한 법률상 알선수재, 정치자금법 위반 혐의를 적용, 구속영장을 법원에 청구했다.
특검은 전날 전 씨에 대한 13시간 가량의 고강도 조사를 진행했는데, 전 씨의 진술이 일관되지 않고, 사실관계와 다른 주장을 하는 점과 주거지를 여러 차례 옮긴 점 등을 들어 증거인멸 및 도주 우려가 크다고 판단했다.
전씨는 지난 2022년 4~7월 윤영호 전 통일교 세계본부장으로부터 고가의 금품과 천수삼 농축차 등을 받은 뒤 이를 김 여사에게 전달하려 한 혐의를 받는다.
특검은 윤영호 씨가 전 씨에게 총 8천만 원 상당의 샤넬백과 그라프사 목걸이 등을 건넸고, 전 씨가 이를 김 여사에게 전달하려 한 혐의가 있다고 보고 있다. 실제로 윤 전 본부장은 2022년 8월 전 씨에게 “잘 전달됐냐”는 문자를 보냈고, 이에 전 씨는 “잘 전달됐다”고 답한 내역도 확보한 것으로 전해졌다.
특검은 이 과정에서 전 씨가 ▲캄보디아 메콩강 ODA 사업 ▲유엔 제5사무국 한국 유치 ▲YTN 인수 ▲대통령 취임식 초청 ▲통일교 행사에 교육부 장관 초청 등 다양한 현안을 청탁하려 했다고 보고 있다.
Special Prosecutor Seeks Arrest Warrant for Rev. Jeon Seong-bae on Suspicions of Soliciting from Unification Church
The special prosecution team has requested an arrest warrant for Rev. Jeon Seong-bae, also known as "Rev. Jeon," who is suspected of receiving expensive gifts intended for First Lady Kim Kun-hee and then attempting to solicit favors on various issues related to the Unification Church (Family Federation for World Peace and Unification).
According to legal sources on the 19th, the special prosecution team led by Special Prosecutor Min Joong-ki requested an arrest warrant for Rev. Jeon that afternoon, charging him with bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes and violation of the Political Funds Act.
The special prosecution team, which conducted an intensive 13-hour interrogation of Rev. Jeon the previous day, determined that there was a high risk of destruction of evidence and flight, citing inconsistent statements, inconsistent claims, and multiple residence changes.
Jeon is accused of receiving expensive gifts and Cheonsoosam (Korean ginseng) concentrate tea from Yoon Young-ho, the former head of the Unification Church's World Headquarters, between April and July 2022, and then attempting to deliver them to First Lady Kim.
The special prosecutors believe Yoon Young-ho gave Jeon a Chanel bag and a Graf necklace worth a total of 80 million won (approximately $65,000 USD), and that Jeon attempted to deliver them to First Lady Kim. In fact, the special prosecutors reportedly secured a text message from Yoon asking Jeon in August 2022, "Did you deliver it properly?" to which Jeon responded, "It was delivered properly."
The special prosecutors also reportedly discovered evidence that Jeon attempted to solicit various favors, including the Cambodian Mekong River ODA project, hosting the UN Fifth Secretariat in Korea, acquiring YTN, inviting the President to the inauguration, and inviting the Minister of Education to a Unification Church event.
