[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 시청 시민홀에서 '2025 대한민국 정원산업박람회' 유공자 61명에게 포상을 수여하고 노고에 대한 감사의 뜻을 전했다고 20일 밝혔다.
이번 수여식에서는 박람회 추진 공무원, 정원 조성에 참여한 시민과 기관, 현장 운영을 도운 자원봉사자들이 고르게 선정돼 수상의 영예를 안았다.
2025 대한민국 정원산업박람회는 부산, 수원, 천안 등 8개 도시와 경쟁 끝에 진주시가 개최지로 최종 선정돼 국비를 지원받는 국가행사로 치러졌다.
박람회는 지난 6월 13일부터 22일까지 10일간 열렸으며, 총 20억원의 예산이 투입돼 진주시의 녹색도시 이미지를 대내외에 널리 알렸다.
이번 행사는 시민정원사, 자원봉사자, 지역 단체 등의 자발적 참여로 시민 주도형 정원문화라는 점에서 특별한 의미를 지닌 것으로 평가된다.
또 박람회는 10일간 약 41만명이 행사장을 방문했고, 약 250억원의 경제적 파급 효과를 창출하며 지역경제 활성화에도 크게 기여한 것으로 분석됐다.
진주시는 이를 계기로 오는 2026년 ‘월아산 지방정원’ 등록을 추진하고, ‘월아산 숲속의 진주’ 일원에서 정원박람회 개최 계획도 함께 전했다.
시는 앞으로 국가정원을 품은 정원 속의 진주, 진주같은 정원이라는 도시브랜드 완성을 목표로 다양한 정원문화 정책을 이어갈 방침이다.
