경기북부보훈지청, 독립유공자 故 유현석 지사 대통령표창 추서 전수식 개최

경기북부보훈지청(지청장 손순욱)이 제80주년 광복절을 기념해 독립유공자 故 유현석 지사에 대한 대통령표창 추서 전수식을 개최했다.

20일 경기북부보훈지청 청사에서 열린 전수식에는 고인의 외증손인 심명수 씨가 손녀 유선순 씨를 대신해 포상을 대리 수령했다.

故 유현석 지사는 1919년 4월 5일 충청남도 청양군 정산면 서정리 정산시장에서 벌어진 독립만세운동에 적극 참여하다 일제강점기 당국에 체포됐다. 

이후 태형 70도를 선고받는 등 혹독한 처벌을 받았음에도 불구하고 조국 광복을 위한 항일운동에 헌신한 공로를 인정받아 이번에 정부로부터 대통령표창을 추서받게 됐다.

손순욱 지청장은 "조국의 독립을 위해 몸과 마음을 바치신 유현석 지사님의 숭고한 뜻을 기리며, 후손분들께도 깊은 감사를 드린다"고 말했다.

이어 "앞으로도 독립유공자의 명예 선양과 유족 예우를 위해 최선을 다하겠다"며 "우리가 누리고 있는 오늘의 자유와 평화가 이분들의 희생 위에 이뤄진 것임을 항상 기억하고, 그 뜻을 후세에 전하는 데 앞장서겠다"고 밝혔다.

한편, 경기북부보훈지청은 광복절을 맞아 관내 독립유공자와 유족들을 대상으로 다양한 기념행사를 진행하며 순국선열과 애국지사들의 희생정신을 기리고 있다.

At the ceremony, held at the Gyeonggi Northern Veterans Affairs Office on the 20th, the late Governor Yu's great-grandson, Shim Myeong-su, accepted the award on behalf of his granddaughter, Yoo Seon-sun.

The late Governor Yu Hyeon-seok was arrested by Japanese colonial authorities while actively participating in the independence movement held at Jeongsan Market in Seojeong-ri, Jeongsan-myeon, Cheongyang-gun, Chungcheongnam-do on April 5, 1919.

Despite receiving harsh punishments, including a 70-degree flogging, he was posthumously awarded a Presidential Citation by the government in recognition of his dedication to the anti-Japanese movement for the liberation of his country.

Director Son Soon-wook stated, "I commemorate the noble spirit of Patriot Yu Hyeon-seok, who dedicated his body and soul to the independence of our country, and I also express my deepest gratitude to his descendants."
