충남 서산을 대표하는 문화 축제인 제22회 서산해미읍성축제가 오는 9월 26일부터 28일까지 3일간 해미읍성 일원에서 개최된다. 올해 축제는 ‘고성방가(古城放佳) 시즌3 - 과거·현재·미래의 지혜를 만나다’를 주제로, 600여 년 역사를 지닌 해미읍성을 배경으로 총 38개 프로그램이 펼쳐진다.
행사 준비 방향을 설명하기 위해 26일 서산시청 대회의실에서 열린 기자회견에서 임진번 서산문화재단 대표이사와 류재현 축제 총감독은 “모든 세대가 공감할 수 있는 다채로운 공연과 체험, 가족 중심의 프로그램을 마련했다”며 축제 청사진을 소개했다.
개막식은 26일 오후 6시 30분 시작된다. 세계 민속공연을 비롯해 서산시립합창단, 가수 유지우와 박지현의 축하 무대가 이어지고, XR(가상현실) 영상을 활용한 염동균 작가의 주제 공연을 통해 해미읍성의 역사 이야기가 관객에게 전달된다.
27일부터 이틀간은 낮에는 어린이 뮤지컬, 세계 민속 공연, 거리 버스킹 등이 이어지고, 저녁 시간대에는 오케스트라 연주, 뮤지컬, 인기 가수 무대, EDM 파티가 축제 분위기를 한층 끌어올릴 예정이다.

특히 올해 축제는 가족 단위 방문객을 고려한 체험과 휴식 공간을 확대했다. 해미읍성 동문 인근에 마련되는 ‘해미 키즈존’에는 대형 슬라이드와 에어바운스를 지난해보다 늘어난 6기 규모로 운영하며, 실내 텐트 놀이터와 다양한 장난감도 준비된다. 부모 세대를 위해서는 피크닉존과 빈백 쉼터를 마련해 ‘아이와 부모가 함께 즐기는 가족친화형 축제’라는 콘셉트를 강화했다.
또 친환경 운영을 위해 볏짚 안내판, 재생에너지 조명 장치 등이 설치되며, 지난해 큰 호응을 얻었던 뻥튀기 그릇을 활용한 친환경 먹거리 ‘주먹뻥밥’도 새로운 맛으로 돌아온다.
