이채명 경기도의원, 안양교도소 공간 활용 ‘지붕 없는 박물관’ 논의

경기도의회 이채명 의원(더불어민주당, 안양6)이 지난 8월 27일 경기도의회 안양상담소에서 2기적팩토리 이미경 대표, 황의영 사진작가와 함께 호계3동 안양교도소 일부 공간을 문화예술 공간으로 활용하는 방안에 대해 논의했다.

논의된 방안에는 경기문화재단의 ‘지붕 없는 박물관’ 컨설팅 사업과 연계해 교도소 담장 위 철조망을 안전한 판넬로 교체하고, 이를 지역 작가들의 작품 전시 벽으로 활용하는 아이디어도 포함됐다. 차가운 철망 대신 예술작품이 들어서면 교도소 공간이 문화 거점으로 탈바꿈할 수 있다는 점 때문이다.

이미경 대표는 “안양 지역 작가들은 전시 공간이 부족해 외부에서 활동하는 경우가 많다”며, “작은 전시 공간만 마련돼도 주민과 호흡할 기회가 크게 늘 것”이라고 강조했다.

이채명 의원은 “교도소라는 특수한 공간이 문화예술로 재탄생한다면 지역 작가들의 창작 활동과 주민들의 문화 향유 기회가 확대될 것”이라며, “경기문화재단과 안양시, 교도소 관계자와 긴밀히 협력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Provincial Council Member Lee Chae-myeong Discusses Utilizing Anyang Prison Space as a 'Roofless Museum'

On August 27th, Gyeonggi Provincial Council Member Lee Chae-myeong (Democratic Party of Korea, Anyang 6th District) discussed utilizing a portion of Anyang Prison in Hogye 3-dong as a cultural and arts space with Lee Mi-kyung, CEO of 2nd Miracle Factory, and photographer Hwang Eui-young.

At the meeting, Lee Mi-kyung emphasized, "Anyang-area artists often work outside due to a lack of exhibition space. Even a small exhibition space would greatly increase opportunities to connect with residents."

The proposed plan, in conjunction with the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation's "Roofless Museum" consulting project, included replacing the barbed wire fence on the prison wall with safe panels and using them as a wall for exhibiting local artists' work. The hope is that replacing the cold barbed wire with artwork could transform the prison space into a cultural hub. The lawmaker said, “If the special space of the prison is reborn as a place for culture and arts, it will expand the creative activities of local artists and the opportunities for residents to enjoy culture,” and added, “I will work closely with the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, Anyang City, and prison officials.”
