[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 지난 8월 망진산 정상에 봉수대 복원공사를 완료하고, 시민들과 함께 현장을 점검하며 역사문화유산의 가치를 되새겼다고 2일 밝혔다.
망진산 봉수대는 지난 1996년 진주문화사랑모임이 시민 모금을 통해 설치했으나, 지난 2022년 집중호우로 붕괴돼 이번에 원형에 가깝게 복원됐다.
시는 문화재 지표 및 정밀 발굴조사를 거쳐 임진왜란 전후 봉수 유적의 위치를 확인하고, 지난 2024년 11월 복원공사에 착수했다.
이번 봉수대는 조선시대 5연조 구조를 반영해 재건됐으며, 기존 봉수대의 돌을 재활용해 시민이 지켜온 유산으로서 상징성을 더했다.
진주 망진산 봉수대는 사천 안점산에서 신호를 받아 진주 광제산으로 전달하던 군사 통신시설로, 학술적으로도 높은 가치를 지닌다.
봉수대는 시기를 달리한 봉수 구조가 함께 발견된 드문 사례로, 조선 봉수체계의 변화를 보여주는 자료로 인정받아 경남도 기념물로 지정됐다.
