대구문화예술회관(관장 김희철)은 삼보모터스(주)와 함께하는 ‘2025 올해의 청년작가’전을 9월 6일까지 대구문화예술회관 미술관 스페이스 하이브에서 진행하고 있다.
올해의 청년작가전은 대구문화예술회관이 지난 1998년부터 시작해 올해로 23회째 열어오고 있는 전시다. 만25~40세 사이의 지역 신진 작가를 발굴·지원하여 지역 미술발전의 기틀을 마련하는 것이 목적이다.
참여작가는 강민영(회화·설치), 김상덕(회화), 신준민(회화), 이재호(회화), 변카카(설치) 5인. 올해 초 대구·경북 지역 청년작가(1980~2000년생) 대상 공모에 응한 79명 가운데 뽑혔다.
다섯 개 전시실이 벌집 모양으로 자리한 스페이스 하이브. 왼쪽으로 들어서면 강민영에서 시작해 김상덕, 신준민, 이재호, 변카카의 전시가 나란히 펼쳐진다.

강민영의 전시 주제는 ‘SYLPH’(공기의 정령). 천장에 세로로 묶여 회전하는 대들보에 회화작품을 마치 줄기처럼 꽂은 ‘glide1’, ‘glide2’ 등 작품을 선보였다. ‘빛과 시간, 움직임이 교차하는 동적인 시간 경험’을 보여주길 바라는 작가의 마음이 담겨 있다.
김상덕은 ‘사랑한다, 짝퉁세계’를 주제로 ‘매혹적인 두려움과 저속한 색, 장면으로 구성된 환상세계’를 보여준다. ‘사랑스런 돼지고기들아 보물찾기 하자’, ‘핵상쾌동산’, ‘변태보다 더한 변태들’ 등 엉뚱하고 발랄한 제목들이 눈에 띈다.
신준민의 주제는 ‘빛과 걷기’다. ‘빛을 찾아 나서는 산책’에서 얻은 빛을 ‘구상과 지각의 추상’으로 변환시킨 ‘푸른 밤’, ‘Spotlight’, ‘잔상연구 시리즈’를 전시한다.

이재호의 전시 주제는 ‘누군가의 풍경’이다. 직접 수집한 이미지의 파편들을 전시실 여기저기 배치해 자신만의 풍경을 그려냈다. ‘파편 – 지나치는 풍경’ ‘지나치는 풍경’ 연작 등이 있다.
변카카는 ‘시간의 증상들’을 주제로 한 ‘구르는 사람과 역경에 부딪힌 바위’ 같은 작업을 들고나왔다. 신발을 벗고 흙길을 걸어야 바위 조각상에 닿을 수 있게 작품을 배치했다.

올해 청년작가전에서는 후원업체인 삼보모터스(주)가 삼보미술상(상금 3,000만 원)을 준비했다. 8월 8일 시상식에서 ‘빛과 걷기’를 주제로 전시에 참여한 신준민 작가에게 그 영예가 돌아갔다.
