브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 서울남부지검 압수수색물 보관 담당 수사관이 무속인 건진법사 전성배씨 자택에서 압수된 관봉권 띠지 분실 사건과 관련해 국회 청문회에서 “기계적으로 일을 하기 때문에 잘 기억나지 않는다”는 취지로 답변했다.
5일 국회 법제사법위원회 검찰개혁 입법청문회에 증인으로 출석한 김정민 서울남부지검 수사관은 관봉권 띠지가 비닐에 둘러싸여 있었는지 여부나 고무줄로 묶여 있었는지 등에 대해 “시간이 많이 지나 기억이 나지 않는다”며, 압수물 접수 시 검사실 지시가 없으면 띠지를 보통 보관하지 않는다고 밝혔다.
김 수사관은 압수 물품을 확인하고 보관 담당에게 인계하는 업무를 2023년 3월부터 2024년 1월까지 맡았다. 관봉권은 2024년 12월 전씨 자택 압수수색 과정에서 발견된 1억6500만 원 중 5000만 원 규모이며, 발권 일시와 담당자, 사용 장비 등이 기록된 띠지와 스티커가 훼손·분실되면서 증거인멸 논란이 일었다.
이에 대해 서울남부지검은 현금을 계수하는 과정에서 직원 실수로 띠지와 스티커가 분실됐다고 해명했다.
함께 증인으로 참석한 당시 남부지검 부장검사 박건욱 인권보호관은 일부 검사들이 조직적으로 증거를 인멸하려 했다는 의혹에 대해 “전혀 그렇게 생각하지 않는다”며 “띠지 스티커 훼손 지시를 한 적 없다”고 말했다.
당시 차장검사 이모씨도 “수사팀에서 띠지를 훼손하지 말라는 지시를 전달했고, 훼손은 압수물 담당자의 실수로 발생한 것으로 보고 있다”고 밝혔다.
장경태 민주당 의원은 수사관 증언을 근거로 “압수 당시 사진을 찍었음에도 훼손이 발생했다면, 결국 검사실 지시나 압수 과정에서 문제가 있었음을 의미한다. 검찰이 이런 식으로 김 수사관에게 뒤집어 씌우는 것”이라고 의혹을 제기했다.
한편, 국민의힘 의원들은 증인·참고인 제외 요청이 받아들여지지 않자 청문회 시작 직후 다수 의원이 퇴장하며 반발했다. 나경원 의원은 청문회를 두고 “이게 무슨 청문회냐. 국회에서 수사와 재판을 하자는 것이냐”며 강하게 비판했다.
