충남 서산시의회가 한국전력공사의 농사용 전기요금 인상 추진에 대해 반대 입장을 밝히고, 정부와 관계기관에 합리적인 요금체계 마련과 농촌경제 보호 대책을 촉구했다.
서산시의회는 12일 본회의장에서 ‘농사용 전기요금 인상 반대 촉구 건의문’을 채택했다고 밝혔다. 의회는 건의문을 통해 “농업은 식량안보의 근간이자 국가 경제의 핵심 산업임에도, 전력비 인상은 농가에 치명적인 부담이 되고 있다”며 한국전력의 인상 정책 철회를 강력히 요구했다.
한국전력은 2025년 상반기 매출 46조 1741억 원, 영업이익 5조 8895억 원 등 8분기 연속 흑자를 기록했음에도 불구하고, 누적 적자 해소와 재정 건전화를 이유로 농사용 전기요금 현실화를 추진 중이다.

서산시의회는 이번 건의문 채택이 단순한 농가 지원 차원을 넘어, 국가 식량안보와 농촌경제의 지속가능성을 지키기 위한 결단이라고 강조했다.
서산시의회 관계자는 “농업은 공익적 가치가 큰 산업임에도 불구하고 외부 변수에 취약한 구조를 안고 있다”며 “정부 차원의 선제적 대응과 합리적인 제도 개선이 필요하다”고 말했다.
