'2025 상하이 프린지 페스티벌'은 중국 민간예술단체 소석문화상해 유한회사가 주최한 상하이 최대 민간 연극 축제다.
대경대 연기예술과 창작작품은 지난 21일 중국 상하이 48시간 프린지 페스티벌 개막식에 공식 참가해 호평을 받았다.
탄소 배출의 심각한 위험성을 고발한 작품 'C-666'은 탄소 배출로 인한 지구의 이상 기후와 인간 생존 위기를 다루며, 환경오염 문제를 집중적으로 제기했다. 한·중 대표 대학으로는 대경대 연기예술과와 베이징대학교 공연예술 전공자들이 참여했다.
작품은 주제에 접근하기 위해 사운드, 오브제, 공간, 퍼포머들의 움직임만으로 구성됐다. 지난 1학기 동시대 연극 세미나 수업을 통해 4학년 심화 과정 전공자들이 공동 창작한 작품을 이번 프린지 페스티벌 공식 참가를 위해 확장·개발했다.
작품 내용은 지구 자연이 인간의 등장으로 평화를 잃는 장면에서 시작된다. 전기 남용, 패스트패션, 일회용품 과다 사용, 탄소 배출을 피할 수 없는 인간의 행동으로 인해 자연이 훼손되는 미래 현상을 담아냈다. 마지막 장면에서는 거대한 쓰레기가 지구로 쏟아지고, 결국 지구가 무너진 채 막을 내린다.
전공 학생들은 탄소 배출로 인한 지구 오염을 쓰레기 더미로 그로테스크하게 강조하는 장면을 위해, 출발 시 약 10kg의 쓰레기를 분담해 대형 캐리어에 담아 중국 상하이로 공수할 정도의 열정을 보였다.
연출을 맡은 김성환 학생은 "탄소 문제로 인한 지구 환경 문제를 대사는 절제하고 배우들의 신체 감각과 다양한 오브제로만 표현하고 싶었다"며 "중국 상하이 프린지 페스티벌 공연을 통해 연극 창작자들이 동시대에 어떤 고민을 하고, 그것을 무대에서 어떻게 표현하는지 많은 경험이 됐다"고 덧붙였다.
소석문화 유한회사 주한 대표 이훈경은 "한·중 청년들의 아이디어와 실험적인 도전을 펼칠 수 있는 국제연극축제"라고 설명하고 "내년에는 한·중 문화교류를 확장하고 자발적인 창작 기회를 넓혀 나가겠다"고 말했다.
대경대학교 김건표 교수는 "중국 상하이 48시간 프린지 페스티벌은 한·중 청년 예술가들이 동시대 작품을 개발하고 창작할 수 있는 민간 교류 축제이자 앞으로 상하이 최대 연극축제가 될 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.

The students, who majored in the play, displayed their passion by sharing approximately 10kg of trash and airlifting it to Shanghai, China, in a large suitcase, to create a scene that grotesquely emphasizes the global pollution caused by carbon emissions.
Director Kim Seong-hwan stated, "I wanted to express the global environmental issues caused by carbon emissions with minimal dialogue, relying solely on the actors' physical sensations and various objects." He added, "Performing at the Shanghai Fringe Festival in China provided valuable insight into the concerns of contemporary theater creators and how they express them on stage."
Lee Hoon-kyung, Korea Representative of Soseok Culture Co., Ltd., described the festival as "an international theater festival where young Korean and Chinese artists can showcase their ideas and experimental challenges." He added, "Next year, we will expand cultural exchange between Korea and China and broaden opportunities for spontaneous creative endeavors."
Professor Kim Geon-pyo of Daekyung University stated, "The Shanghai 48-Hour Fringe Festival is a private exchange festival where young Korean and Chinese artists can develop and create contemporary works. We anticipate it will become Shanghai's largest theater festival in the future."
