손빙은 아들 손무에게 제나라가 춘추시대 첫 패자가 된 과정에 대해 설명해 주었다.
기원전 685년, 주나라가 낙양으로 동천한 지 100년쯤 되던 해였다. 제나라에 걸출한 인물이 등장으니 바로 제환공齊桓公(685〜643)으로 원래 태자가 아니었지만, 포숙아의 지혜로 제후가 되었다.
그 과정은 이러했다.
제 환공의 공자 시절 이름은 소백召白이며 큰형 제아諸兒가 태자였고 또 다른 형 규糾와 누님 문강文姜이 있었다.

몇일후 노환공이 술에 취해 있을 때였다. 팽생이 부축해 마차에 태우는 척하며 늑골을 부러뜨려 죽였다.

It was 685 BC, about a hundred years after the Zhou Dynasty moved to Luoyang. A remarkable figure emerged in Qi: Duke Huan of Qi (685–643). Originally not a crown prince, he was elevated to the rank of feudal lord through the wisdom of Bao Shu'er.

Duke Huan's name during his childhood was Xiao Bai. His eldest brother, Duke Zhu'er, was crown prince. He also had another older brother, Jiu, and an older sister, Wen Jiang.
