[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시가 차세대 첨단위성 글로벌 혁신특구 사업의 핵심 기반시설인 위성의 명령 송신과 상태 관리 등 관제 기능을 수행하는 필수 인프라인 위성 데이터통신 ‘지상국’을 구축한다고 30일 밝혔다.
이번 지상국 구축은 진주시가 추진 중인 두 번째 초소형 위성 ‘진주샛-2’ 운용과 직접 연계돼 위성 제작부터 데이터 활용까지 이어지는 전주기 산업 완성에 중요한 역할을 할 전망이다.
혁신특구 사업은 2025년부터 오는 2029년까지 총사업비 245억원을 투입해 해외실증 네트워크 지원, 디지털트윈 기반 실증 환경, 해외 인증 지원 등 다양한 프로그램과 함께 추진된다.
시는 이미 초소형 위성 ‘진주샛-1B’ 발사 성공, 우주환경시험시설 구축, 경상국립대 강소연구특구 등 연구 기반을 보유하고 있어 특구 사업 최적지로 평가받고 있다.
지상국이 완공되면 진주시는 우주산업 생태계를 조성하고, 기업 지원과 인재 양성을 병행하며 대한민국 우주항공 산업의 중심지로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다.
