브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 올해 들어 신종마약 적발 규모가 이미 지난해 전체를 넘어선 것으로 나타났다. 합성대마와 펜타닐, 신종 환각제 등 변종 마약이 급속히 확산하면서 사회 전반의 중독 위험이 커지고 있다는 우려가 제기된다.
박수영 국민의힘 의원이 지난 2일 관세청에서 제출받은 자료를 분석한 결과, 2025년 1월부터 8월까지 적발된 신종마약은 총 509건, 중량 186kg, 시가 118억 원에 달했다. 이는 지난해 적발 건수(515건)에 육박하는 수준이며, 중량(167kg)과 금액(112억 원)은 이미 지난해 전체를 넘어섰다.
신종마약 적발 규모는 최근 5년 새 폭발적으로 증가했다. 2020년 333건(12억 원)에 불과하던 것이 5년 만에 약 10배로 늘어난 것이다.
신종마약은 전통적인 마약류인 대마나 필로폰과 달리 합성대마, 펜타닐 패치, 신종 환각제(NPS·New Psychoactive Substances) 등으로 다양화·변종화되고 있다. 특히 해외에서 유입된 마약이 SNS, 다크웹, 메신저 등을 통해 청소년·청년층으로 빠르게 퍼지고 있는 점이 심각한 사회 문제로 지적된다.
최근에는 단순 밀반입을 넘어, 10~20대가 온라인 커뮤니티를 통해 ‘신종 환각 놀이(OD·OverDose)’에 직접 노출되는 사례까지 발생하고 있다. 지난 9월 부산본부세관은 해외에서 코데인·덱스트로메토르판 성분 감기약 4000여 정을 밀반입한 10대·20대 3명을 적발해 검찰에 송치했다. 이들은 채팅방에서 ‘OD 중독 체크리스트’를 공유하며 복용 방법과 밀수 수법을 주고받았고, 일부는 한 번에 100정을 복용하거나 분말화한 의약품을 술과 함께 복용하는 등 ‘환각 파티’를 벌인 것으로 드러났다.
박수영 의원은 “신종마약은 마치 트렌드처럼 확산하며 국민의 안전을 위협하고 있다”며 “대마·필로폰 등 기존 마약류 못지않게 신종마약에 대한 강력한 단속이 필요하다”고 강조했다.
이어 “특히 젊은 세대가 신종마약 확산의 1차 피해자가 될 수 있는 만큼, 수사기관의 집중 단속과 교육·홍보 강화가 시급하다”며 “정부는 수사기관, 관세청, 보건당국이 협업해 해외 밀반입 단계부터 시중 유통 차단까지 전방위 대응 체계를 구축해야 한다”고 촉구했다.
