[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 전국 지자체 최초로 초소형 인공위성 ‘진주샛-1B’ 발사에 성공한 데 이어 후속 위성인 ‘진주샛-2’ 개발을 본격화하고 있다고 14일 밝혔다.
시는 지난 9월 26일 한국산업기술시험원 우주부품시험센터에서 예비설계 검토회의(PDR)를 열고 본격적인 개발 단계에 착수했다.
이번 회의에는 진주시와 한국산업기술시험원, 경상국립대 등 개발 주체와 국내 우주분야 전문가 40여 명이 참석했다.
참석자들은 위성의 탑재체와 본체 설계안을 검토, 기술적 안정성과 임무 수행 능력을 평가했다.
진주샛-1B는 지난 3월 미국 캘리포니아 반덴버그 기지에서 발사돼 성공적으로 궤도에 안착했다.
당초 3개월로 계획된 임무기간을 2배 이상 초과 달성하며 현재까지도 하루 4회 교신을 유지하고 있다.
진주샛-2는 총 50억원을 투입해 오는 2027년 하반기 발사를 목표로 추진된다.
진주샛-2’는 국내 최초로 해수온과 해색을 동시에 탐지하는 센서를 탑재해 연근해와 진양호의 수온 변화, 녹조 및 적조 현상 등 해양환경 감시에 활용될 예정이다.
이번 사업은 진주시의 위성 제작 기술력 향상은 물론 위성 데이터를 활용한 산업(다운스트림) 육성의 기반이 될 전망이다.
시는 위성에서 생산된 데이터를 지역 기업과 연구기관과 공유해 새로운 산업 생태계를 조성할 계획이다.
