[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 경상국립대학교 칠암캠퍼스에서 ‘2026 아시아 이스포츠대회’ 공동 추진을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 15일 밝혔다.
이번 협약식에는 조규일 진주시장, 박명균 경남도 행정부지사, 김영만 한국이스포츠협회장 등 주요 관계자들이 참석했으며, 2026 아시아 이스포츠대회의 성공적인 개최를 위해 마련됐다.
아시아 이스포츠대회는 진주시 초전동에 위치한 진주실내체육관에서 개최될 예정이며, 대회 기간 동안 체험부스, 팝업스토어, 문화공연 등 다양한 부대행사도 함께 운영된다.
시는 이번 대회를 통해 지역 전통문화 자산을 활용한 문화교류 프로그램을 추진, 진주의 문화와 예술을 아시아 각국에 알리고 세계적인 이스포츠 중심도시로 도약할 발판을 마련할 계획이다.
조규일 진주시장은 “국제 규모의 이스포츠 대회를 진주에서 개최하게 되어 매우 뜻깊게 생각한다”며 “지 이번 대회를 완벽하게 준비해 이스포츠 산업 발전과 지역경제 활성화에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.
