브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령과 다카이치 사나에 일본 총리가 28일 오전 도쿄 미나토구 영빈관에서 첫 정상회담을 열고 미일 동맹 강화를 한목소리로 강조했다.
니혼게이자이신문(닛케이)과 지지통신 등에 따르면 다카이치 총리는 이날 오전 9시 30분경 영빈관에서 트럼프 대통령을 맞이했으며, 9시 50분부터 회담이 시작됐다. 두 정상은 10시 50분 무역합의 이행 관련 문서에 공동 서명한 뒤, 오전 11시부터 오찬을 함께했다.
지난 21일 취임한 다카이치 총리가 트럼프 대통령과 회담한 것은 이번이 처음이다. 두 정상은 미일 동맹 강화, 국제 정세, 방위 협력 등을 주제로 의견을 교환했다.
다카이치 총리는 모두 발언에서 “트럼프 대통령의 방일을 진심으로 환영한다”며 “아베 신조 전 총리로부터 트럼프 대통령과의 다이나믹한 외교 이야기를 자주 들었다”고 말했다. 이어 “트럼프 대통령이 아시아 평화에 기여했으며, 중동 합의 실현은 전례 없는 역사적 위업”이라며 “세계 평화와 안정에 대한 대통령의 흔들림 없는 약속을 높이 평가한다”고 밝혔다.

트럼프 대통령은 이어 일본의 방위 장비 구매에 감사를 표했고, 일본 기업의 미국 내 투자 확대에도 환영의 뜻을 밝혔다.
트럼프 대통령은 아울러 다카이치 총리가 회담에서 일본의 방위비 조기 증액 방침을 밝힌 것에 대해 "(방위비 조기 증액) 지시와 무역에 매우 감사한다"면서 "우리는 그 어떤 때보다도 엄청난 무역을 할 것이다. 이제 막 새로운 합의에 서명하고 있으며, 이는 매우 공정한 합의"이라고 밝혔다.
