대통령실이 3일 "2025 APEC(아시아태평양경제협력체) 정상회의 계기로 AI(인공지능) 3강 도약을 위한 발판을 마련했다"고 밝혔다.
대통령실은 이날 보도자료를 통해 "이재명 대통령은 그간 AI 3강 도약을 위해 인프라·기술·인재 전반에 걸친 기술 혁신 생태계 강화 정책을 집중 추진했다"며 이같이 전했다.
이 대통령은 한국 민·관이 경주 APEC 계기로 세계 1위 AI 반도체 기업 엔비디아로부터 최신 GPU(그래픽처리장치) 26만장을 우선 공급받기로 한 점을 높이 평가했다.
또 지난 9월 세계 최대 자산운용사 블랙록 래리핑크 회장과의 면담을 통해 AI·재생에너지 인프라와 아시아·태평양 AI 허브 구축을 위해 협력키로 했다.
지난 10월 초엔 챗 GPT 개발사 샘 올트먼 오픈AI CEO와 국내 AI 생태계의 지역 균형 발전 및 AI 인재 양성 등 협력 MOU(양해각서)를 맺은 바 있다.
대통령실은 "이번 엔비디아와 대규모 AI 컴퓨팅 인프라 확충에 협력키로 한 결과 AI 변방에서 격전지로 첫 발을 내딛게 됐다"며 "정부의 이같은 노력을 통해 대한민국 AI 정책 의지·역량·제조업 등 경쟁력을 한층 강화할 수 있을 걸로 기대된다"고 전했다.
그러면서 "그 결과 글로벌 자본·기업 투자의 연쇄적 확산이란 성과로 이어지고 있다"며 "또 APEC 계기로 AI 이니셔티브를 APEC 회원 컨센서스로 도출해 아·태지역 내 AI 허부 국가로서 글로벌 AI 리더십을 확보하기 위한 토대도 마련케 됐다"고 덧붙였다.
