브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= ‘통일교 당권 개입 의혹’으로 김건희 여사를 추가 기소한 특별검사팀이 지난 2023년 국민의힘 당 대표 선거를 앞두고 당원으로 가입한 통일교 신도의 규모를 2000여 명대로 특정한 것으로 파악됐다.
13일 법조계에 따르면 김건희 특검팀(특별검사 민중기)은 지난 7일 김 여사 등 5명을 정당법 위반 혐의로 추가 기소하면서 공소장에 이 같은 내용을 적시한 것으로 전해졌다.
특검은 김 여사와 ‘건진법사’로 알려진 전성배 씨가 공모해 윤석열 전 대통령과 자신들이 지지하는 후보를 2023년 3월 8일 열린 국민의힘 전당대회에서 당 대표로 당선시키기 위해 통일교 신도들의 당원 가입을 요청했다고 판단했다.
김 여사와 전 씨는 2022년 11월 통일교 측에 이를 부탁하며 대가로 통일교의 정책 지원과 국회의원 비례대표직 제공을 약속한 것으로 전해졌다.
특검은 한학자 통일교 총재와 정원주 당시 총재 비서실장, 윤영호 전 세계본부장이 김 여사와 전 씨의 제안을 수락하고 공모해 신도들의 당원 가입을 유도했다고 보고 이들을 함께 재판에 넘겼다.
정당법에 따르면 당 대표 경선에서 특정 후보를 당선시키기 위해 재산상 이익 제공을 약속하거나 이를 받은 경우, 3년 이하 징역 또는 600만 원 이하 벌금형에 처한다고 규정하고 있다.
당초 김 여사와 전 씨, 윤 전 본부장이 지지한 인물은 ‘핵심 친윤’ 권성동 국민의힘 의원으로 알려졌다. 당시 윤 전 본부장이 “윤심은 정확히 무엇입니까”라는 문자를 보내자 전 씨가 “윤심은 변함없이 권”이라고 답한 정황도 특검은 확보했다.
그러나 권 의원은 2023년 1월 불출마를 선언했고, 같은 해 3월 당 대표 선거에서는 김기현 의원이 당선됐다. 특검은 이후 김 여사와 전 씨 등이 지원 대상을 김기현 의원으로 바꾸고 통일교 신도들의 당원 가입을 유도했다고 의심하고 있다.
