세종시교육청이 19일 ‘지속가능발전교육거점센터(세종RCE)’를 개소하고 미래 교육 생태계 구축에 나섰다.
이번에 문을 연 ‘세종RCE’는 학교․지역사회․기관 등을 연결하는 협력 거점으로서, 교육 현장에서 지속가능한 발전교육이 확산될 수 있도록 구심점 역할을 수행하게 된다.
앞서 시교육청은 지난 1월 UN대학으로부터 지속가능발전교육 확산을 위한 거점 센터로 공식 인정받았다.
이날 개소식은 세종시교육청의 지속가능발전교육 추진 연혁과 ‘세종RCE’ 인증 과정 등을 돌아보고 향후 운영 방향을 모색하는 순서로 이어졌다.
개소식 마지막 순서인 현판식에서는 그동안 세종시 교육을 위해 힘써온 교육청 관계자, 시민 등 교육공동체가 함께 했으며 세종RCE’의 성공적인 운영을 위한 협력과 연대를 다짐하는 시간으로 진행됐다.
시 교육청은 이번 개소식을 계기로 세종의 지역적 특성을 반영하고 문제를 해결하고, 국제적 협력과 연대를 통해 지속 가능한 공존의 가치를 실현하는데 앞장설 것을 알려졌다.
특히 세종의 학생, 교원, 학부모, 세종 시민 누구나 지속가능발전교육을 위해 자유롭게 소통하고 교류할 수 있는 가교 역할과 쉼을 함께 할 수 있는 편안한 공간으로 제 기능을 다하도록 할 방침이다.
구연희 교육감 권한대행은 축사를 통해 “지속가능발전은 우리 아이들의 미래와 직결되는 중요한 가치.”라며, “세종RCE가 학교를 넘어서 지역사회가 함께 배우고 협력하는 열린 배움터가 되기를 바란다.”고 말했다.
