세종특별자치시가 공공청사의 전력 사용 실태를 점검한 결과, 과도하게 설정된 계약전력을 조정해 연간 약 3억 원의 전기요금을 절감할 것으로 예상된다고 20일 밝혔다.
이번 조치는 불필요한 예산 낭비를 줄이고 시 재정의 효율성을 높이기 위해 시행됐다.
세종시 감사위원회는 최근 보건환경연구원 종합감사 과정에서 실제 사용량보다 계약전력이 과다하게 설정된 사례를 확인하고, 관내 103개 공공청사를 대상으로 2022년부터 올해까지 계약전력의 적정성을 전수 조사했다.
그 결과 보람동·해밀동행정복지센터 등 53곳의 청사에서 기본요금 과다 지출이 있었던 것으로 나타났다.
세종시는 한국전력 세종지사와 협의해 별도의 공사 없이 계약전력 조정만으로 요금 감액이 가능하다는 점을 확인하고, 해당 청사들의 전력 계약을 최적화했다.
이로써 저압 시설 21곳에서는 월 976만 원, 고압 시설 32곳에서는 월 1527만 원의 전기요금이 절감될 것으로 추산된다. 연간 절감액은 총 3억 33만 원에 달하며, 향후 10년간 최대 30억 원 이상의 세출 절감 효과가 기대된다.
세종시는 향후 이번 조사 결과를 바탕으로 에너지 사용량이 높은 공공건물에 대한 추가 분석과 효율화 방안을 검토해 재정 건전성과 에너지 절약을 동시에 달성한다는 방침이다.
