이재명 대통령이 20일(현지시간) 압델 파타 엘시시 이집트 대통령과 취임 후 첫 정상회담을 갖고 포괄적 경제 동반자 협정(CEPA) 추진을 위한 공동선언문에 서명했다.
대통령실에 따르면 이 대통령은 이날 오전 11시께 카이로 대통령궁 앞 광장서 열린 공식 환영식 참석 후 11시 11분께 엘시시 대통령과 단독 회담에 들어간데 이어 확대 회담 등 총 111분간 경제·방산 등 관련 포괄적 협력 방안을 논의했다.
한·이집트는 올해 수교 30주년을 맞은 가운데 포괄적 협력 동반자 관계를 맺고 있다. 또 이집트는 한국 K-9 자주포 주요 구매국 중 하나다.
이날 회담에선 한국산 FA-50 고등 훈련기·천검대전차 미사일 등 관련 방위 산업 분야 협력 방안이 논의된 가운데 평화·경제·사회·교육·문화·방산 등 5대 분야 양국 협력 확대 방안이 담긴 공동언론발표문이 발표됐다.
또 양 정상은 한·이집트 CEPA 추진을 위한 공동선언문·사회보장협정·교육협력·문화협력 MOU(양해각서) 등 문서에 공동 서명했다.
이 대통령은 “CEPA는 양국 광범위한 경제 협력을 뒷받침할 중요 제도적 기반이 될 것”이라며 “양국 간 CEPA 협상이 조속히 개시될 수 있길 기대한다”고 했다.

앗 살람 알라이쿰. 여러분 반갑습니다. 한·이집트 수교 30주년을 맞아 이집트를 공식 방문하게 되어 뜻깊게 생각합니다. 저의 방문을 따뜻하게 맞아주신 엘시시 대통령님과 모든 관계자분들께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드립니다.
