고양시 이동환 시장이 지난 21일 시청 열린시장실에서 '고양은평선 지하철 연장 추진 모임(지추모)'으로부터 고양은평선 일산 연장을 요구하는 주민 서명부를 전달받았다.
이날 전달식에는 이동환 고양시장과 교통정책과장 등 시 관계자를 비롯해 김종현 지추모 부회장, 김형일 단장, 여계은 사무국장이 참석했다.

지추모는 지난 7월 25일부터 11월 14일까지 약 4개월간 식사동 지역으로의 고양은평선 연장을 염원하는 주민서명 운동을 전개했으며, 식사동·풍동 주민 등 약 2만2천 명이 동참했다.
지추모 관계자는 "식사·풍동 지역의 급증하는 통행 수요를 해소하기 위한 광역교통 정책으로 철도교통 확충이 시급하다"라며, "고양은평선 일산 연장이 제5차 광역교통 시행계획에 꼭 반영되길 바란다"라고 말했다.
이동환 고양시장은 "식사·풍동 주민의 숙원이 담긴 고양은평선 일산 연장을 위해 국토부, 대광위와 더욱 적극적으로 협의하고 있다"라며 "제5차 대도시권 광역교통시행계획 반영을 위해 총력을 다하겠다"라고 강조했다.
식사동은 인구 4만 명으로 고양시 44개 동 중 가장 큰 규모지만 철도망이 전혀 없어 '식사섬'이라 불린다.
차량기지와 불과 2km 거리에 위치해 기존 계획 노선에 소폭만 연장하면 식사동까지 연결이 가능하다.
고양시는 민선8기 주요 시정목표인 '사통팔달 교통 허브망 구축'을 위해 지난해 11월 제5차 대도시권 광역교통 시행계획에 고양은평선 일산 연장사업의 신규 노선 반영을 건의했다.
현재 지자체가 건의한 사업의 타당성 검토가 막바지 단계에 있다.
