중구청은 지난 26일 예술체험공간 ‘아루스’ 개관식을 열고 본격적인 운영에 들어갔다고 밝혔다. 앞서 지난 7월 15일부터는 시민들의 사전 체험을 위해 시범운영이 진행됐다.
이날 개관식에는 류규하 중구청장, 김동현 중구의회 의장, 시·구의원, 이병식 약령시보존위원회 이사장, 성내2동 협의단체장, 지역 주민 등 100여 명이 참석해 공간의 새 출발을 함께했다.
아루스는 옛 에코한방웰빙체험관을 전면 리모델링해 756.44㎡ 규모의 공간으로 재탄생했다. 총 27억 원의 예산이 투입됐으며, 이인성 화백을 테마로 한 전시물 제작과 공간 재구성이 이루어졌다.
안내데스크에는 작업에 집중하는 이인성 화백의 실루엣 영상이 설치돼 방문객들의 시선을 사로잡는다. 복도에는 대구 출신 근대 예술가들과 이인성 화백 주변 인물들을 소개하는 전시가 마련됐으며, 갤러리에서는 다양한 작품 감상도 가능하다.
1층에 마련된 ‘예술다방’은 1937년 이인성 화백이 대구에서 직접 운영했던 ‘아루스 다방’을 현대적으로 재해석한 공간이다. 레트로 감성에 휴식 기능을 더해 약령시를 방문한 시민과 관광객들이 편안히 머물 수 있는 분위기를 제공한다.
2층에는 화가의 작업실을 모티브로 한 체험 공간이 조성됐다. 이 공간에서는 이인성 화백의 작품 세계를 좀 더 깊이 이해할 수 있도록 다양한 프로그램이 준비되어 있다. 또한, 디지털 아카이브에서 작품을 시기별·주제별로 찾아 감상할 수 있고, 방문객이 직접 그린 그림을 전시할 수 있는 드로잉 공간도 운영된다. 미디어캔버스실에서는 이인성 화백의 생애와 작품을 담은 실감 영상도 상영 중이다.
아루스는 오전 10시부터 오후 7시까지 운영되며, 매주 월요일은 휴관한다. 현장에는 골목문화해설사가 상주해 해설과 관광 안내 서비스를 제공한다. 중구청은 오는 12월 초 예술과 체험을 결합한 무료 문화 강좌를 열어 시민들의 문화예술 참여 기회를 확대한다는 계획이다.
류규하 중구청장은 “아루스가 지역 문화예술 발전을 이끄는 공간이자, 중구 골목 투어를 찾는 관광객들에게도 편안한 힐링 공간이 되길 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

At the information desk, a silhouette video of artist Lee In-seong concentrating on his work captures the attention of visitors. The hallway features exhibitions showcasing modern artists from Daegu and figures close to Lee In-seong, while the gallery offers a variety of artworks.
The "Art Cafe" on the first floor is a modern reinterpretation of the "Arus Cafe," which Lee In-seong himself ran in Daegu in 1937. Its retro ambiance, combined with relaxation features, creates a comfortable atmosphere for both locals and tourists visiting Yakryeongsi.
The second floor features an experiential space inspired by a painter's studio. Various programs are offered to deepen visitors' understanding of Lee In-seong's artistic world. Visitors can also browse and view his digital archives by period and theme, and a drawing space allows visitors to exhibit their own drawings. The Media Canvas Room also screens an immersive video depicting Lee In-seong's life and work.
Arus is open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and is closed every Monday. A local alley culture guide is on-site to provide commentary and tour information. The Jung-gu District Office plans to expand opportunities for citizens to participate in the arts and culture by hosting free cultural classes combining art and hands-on experiences in early December.
Jung-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyu-ha stated, "I hope Arus will serve as a space that drives local cultural and artistic development, and also provide a comfortable and healing space for tourists visiting the Jung-gu alley tour."
