【브레이크뉴스 】박영재 기자=포항시가 8일 학산천 생태하천 복원사업 준공을 앞두고 학산동 시점부에서 ‘물길맞이 행사’를 열고 도심 생태하천 복원의 본격적인 시작을 알렸다. 수십 년간 복개도로로 존재했던 학산천이 자연형 하천으로 복원됨에 따라 도심 생태축 회복과 수질 개선을 중점으로 한 사업이 마무리 단계에 들어섰다.
이번 행사는 복원 과정과 성과를 시민들과 공유하고 동빈내항으로 이어지는 물길의 회복을 기념하기 위해 마련됐다. 개회와 경과보고, 공로패 수여, 축사에 이어 통수식 퍼포먼스, 학산천 생태하천 걷기 등이 진행됐으며, 참가자들은 학산천 광장에서 연꽃씨앗 EM흙공을 던져 수질 정화 활동을 체험하는 등 생태복원의 의미를 담은 부대 프로그램도 함께 참여했다.
학산천 생태하천 복원사업은 총 424억 원을 투입해 우현동 도시숲에서 중앙동행정복지센터, 동빈내항으로 이어지는 0.9km 구간의 4차선 복개도로를 철거하고 옛 물길을 복원하는 사업이다. 시는 이 사업을 ‘그린웨이 프로젝트’ 및 중앙동 ‘도시재생뉴딜사업’과 연계해 철길숲·우현도시숲·동빈내항·형산강으로 이어지는 생태축을 복원하고 육상·하천·해양을 아우르는 친수공간 기반을 구축했다.
시는 이번 복원을 통해 도심 생태환경을 개선해 시민의 삶의 질을 높이고, 걷기·문화·상권이 결합된 수변도시로의 전환을 기대하고 있다. 특히 구도심 활성화와 연계된 생태 기반 조성은 지속 가능한 도시 생태계 회복의 핵심으로 꼽힌다.
이강덕 포항시장은 “도심을 가로막았던 복개도로가 생태하천으로 되살아난 것은 시민들의 이해와 협조 덕분”이라며 “준공 이후 학산천이 시민 휴식과 문화, 지역상권이 어우러지는 새로운 수변 공간이 되도록 남은 공정에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
