이번 경관개선사업은 효목지하차도에서 효목네거리로 이어지는 구간에서 진행됐으며, 그간 노후된 구조물들로 인해 주민 민원이 끊이지 않던 지역에 새로운 활력을 불어넣었다.
동구청은 재건축이 완료된 주변 환경과 조화를 이루지 못한 기존의 옹벽을 개선하고자, 지역의 생활사와 공동체 이미지를 담아낸 디자인을 적용했다. 이 사업은 공공디자인 심의를 거쳐 최근 공사가 모두 마무리됐다.
개선된 벽면에는 효목동의 옛 소목골 집과 마을 풍경을 모티브로 한 디자인이 입혀져, 효목동만의 정체성을 강조했다.
특히 지역 공동체의 따뜻한 분위기를 시각적으로 표현해, 자연스럽게 지역 브랜딩과 범죄예방 효과까지 동시에 도모했다.
