신한장학재단이 정부로부터 대통령 표창을 받았다. 사회적 배려가 필요한 학생들을 꾸준히 지원해 온 공로가 인정됐다.
신한장학재단은 12월 12일 ‘2025 국민교육 발전 유공’ 정부포상에서 대통령 표창을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 재단이 2006년부터 이어온 장학사업이 교육 격차 해소와 인재 양성에 기여했다는 평가다.
신한장학재단은 ‘금융으로 세상을 이롭게 한다’는 신한금융의 철학을 바탕으로, 경제적·사회적 이유로 학업에 어려움을 겪는 학생들에게 실질적인 도움을 제공해 왔다. 단순한 학비 지원을 넘어, 학생들이 스스로 진로를 설계할 수 있도록 돕는 데 초점을 맞췄다.
장학생들은 금융교육을 비롯해 진로·진학·직무 멘토링을 받는다. 각 분야 전문가와 명사의 특강도 정기적으로 열린다. 장학캠프와 홈커밍데이 같은 네트워킹 프로그램을 통해 장학생 간 교류와 성장을 지원하는 점도 특징이다.
앞으로 지원은 더 확대된다. 신한장학재단은 내년부터 연 600만 원 규모의 생활비·자기계발비 지원을 이어가는 한편, 해외 석·박사 과정까지 아우르는 장기 프로그램을 새롭게 마련할 계획이다. 국내를 넘어 글로벌 무대에서 활동할 인재를 키우겠다는 구상이다.
신한장학재단 관계자는 “경제적 여건 때문에 꿈을 포기하지 않도록 돕는 것이 장학사업의 출발점”이라며 “앞으로도 교육 격차를 줄이고, 학생들이 안정적으로 학업을 이어갈 수 있도록 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
한편 신한장학재단은 2006년 이후 취약계층 중·고·대학생과 법학전문대학원생, 경찰·소방·해양경찰 순직·공상 유공자 자녀 등 약 3천 명에게 총 415억 원의 장학금을 지원해 왔다.
Shinhan Scholarship Foundation Wins Presidential Citation for Contributions to Education
The Shinhan Scholarship Foundation has been awarded a Presidential Citation in recognition of its long-standing contributions to the development of public education in Korea.
The foundation announced on Tuesday that it received the award at the 2025 National Education Development Honors, acknowledging its continuous support for students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Shinhan Scholarship Foundation has focused on expanding equal access to education and nurturing future talent. Rather than limiting support to tuition assistance, the foundation has emphasized helping students design and pursue their own academic and career paths.
In addition to financial aid, scholarship recipients benefit from financial education, career and academic mentoring, job-related guidance, and lectures by experts from various fields. Networking programs such as scholarship camps and alumni homecoming events also help students build lasting connections and grow together.
Starting next year, the foundation plans to further expand its support. Alongside annual living and self-development grants of up to KRW 6 million, it will introduce long-term programs that include support for overseas master’s and doctoral studies, aiming to cultivate global leaders.
A foundation official said, “Our goal has been to ensure that students do not give up on their education due to economic or social constraints. We will continue our efforts to reduce educational inequality and support students in maintaining stable academic paths.”
To date, the Shinhan Scholarship Foundation has provided a total of KRW 41.5 billion in scholarships to approximately 3,000 students, including middle and high school students, university and law school students from underprivileged backgrounds, and children of fallen or injured police officers, firefighters, and coast guard personnel.
