이번 수상은 2024년 지역사회보장계획 시행 결과를 비롯해 의료·돌봄 통합지원 체계 구축, 고독사 및 사회적 고립 예방 등 시민 중심의 맞춤형 복지정책을 지속적으로 추진해 온 노력이 종합적으로 평가된 결과다.
포항시는 먼저 ‘2024년 지역사회보장계획 시행결과 평가’에서 우수상을 수상하며 보건복지부 장관 표창을 받았다. 주민들의 다양한 복지 수요를 반영한 맞춤형 사업 추진과 민관 협력체계 강화를 통해 지역 내 복지자원을 체계적으로 연계한 점이 높은 평가를 받았다. 이를 통해 시민의 삶의 질 향상과 지속가능한 지역복지 기반을 조성한 공로를 인정받았다.

아울러 포항시는 경상북도가 주관한 ‘고독사 및 사회적 고립 예방 우수사례 공모전’에서 우수상을 수상해 도지사 표창과 함께 포상금 100만 원을 받았다. 해당 포상금은 전액 포항시장학재단에 기부돼 지역 인재 육성에 사용될 예정이다.
그동안 시는 고립 위험 가구 발굴, 정기적인 안부 확인, 상담 및 정서 지원 등 다각적인 예방 활동을 지속적으로 추진하며 이웃 간 관계 회복과 지역 공동체 유대감 강화를 위해 힘써왔다. 이러한 노력이 이번 평가에서 좋은 성과로 이어졌다는 평가다.
