한국언론연대(회장 전성남)는 12월22일 서울 프레스센터 20층 국제회의실에서 오전 10시부터 12시까지 제4회 의정-행정대상 시상식을 진행했습니다. 그런데 왜? 제(문일석 브레이크뉴스 발행인) 얼굴이 거기(수상자 명단)에서 나오죠? 나(문일석)를 이 상의 '대상(정원오 서울시 성동구청장)' 바로 아래인 ‘특별상 수상자’로 발표-이 상을 수상했습니다.
이 상의 수상자에는 안규백 국방부 장관님(사회 공헌상)-박수현 더불어민주당 의원님 등도 포함돼, 상의 무게를 더해줍니다.

저는 지난 52년간 비주류 언론인 또는 언론사 사주(社主)로 있어왔는데, 한국언론연대가 이런 기쁜 시간을 만들어주었습니다.
제가 했던 일이란? 오직 한 길- '사실의 기록'에만 전념했던 것입니다. '사실의 기록'은 바로 역사 그 자체입니다. 난 한국 현대사를 기록했던 기록자였다고 자부합니다. 특히, 브레이크뉴스는 114만개의 뉴스-정보가 탑재(2025.12.18 현재)된, 거대한 1등 매체입니다. 그러하니, 이 상은 '브레이크뉴스'나 '주간현대'에 주는 상으로 받아들입니다. 함께, 즐겁습니다.
인터넷 시대라 이런 기회가 나에게도 다가온 것 같습니다. 브레이크뉴스가 한국 인터넷 세상이 열리는 초창기 5년여 간, 한국 최고-1등 매체였으니까요. 이 상(償)...감사할 뿐입니다
한국언론연대측은 “제1회 의정, 행정 대상을 수도권 중심으로 한해 동안 국가와 지역에 공이 있는 분들중 언론사 및 기자들, 공공단체 추천 등을 바탕으로 10여명의 심사위원이 수상자를 선정해 수상식을 거행했다. 2회부터 수도권 중심에서 탈피한 범위를 넓혀 전국 단위로 2회, 3회를 치렀고 4회를 맞게 됐다.”고 소개하고 “이 상은 의정, 행정 대상을 비롯해 사회공헌, 사회봉사. 특별상과 최우수상을 수여하게 됐다.”고 설명했습니다.
4회에는 범시민사회단체연합, 사단법인 한국유권자중앙회와 공동으로 주관합니다. 후원은 신아일보, 브릿지경제, 스트레이트뉴스, 뉴스프리존, 산경일보 등 50여 곳 언론사들이 한다고 합니다.
그런데 한국언론연대(연대)는 2022년 10월에 창립된 언론사 45곳, 기자 70여명이 참여하는 단체랍니다. 아래는 이 상에 대한 수상자인 필자의 소감입니다.

필자는 지난 52년 간 언론계(기자-편집국장-발행인 등)에 몸담아 왔습니다, 이 기간에 했던 일이란, 줄곧해서 '사실(事實)'을 기록하는 일이었습니다.
특별한 의미를 부여하면, 우리나라 5,000년 역사 가운데 가장 번성한 시기를 기록했다는 것입니다.
이 기록은, 우리 민족사의 가장 번창한, 희망의 기록이랄 수 있습니다. 이 기록에는 대한민국의 선진국 성공 비밀이 내장돼 있습니다. 그러하니 기자 임무 중 가장 행복한 기간이었다고 말할 수 있습니다.
한국은 신문의 나라(Korea is a nation of newspapers)입니다. 인터넷 매체 수가 1만 1천 여 개를 넘어섰기 때문입니다. 인구 대비 신문이 가장 많은 나라로 꼽힙니다. 이 매체들을 통해 질 좋은 뉴스-정보가 전달된다면, 한국은 세계의 최대 강국으로 갈 수밖에 없을 것입니다.
한국언론연대가 저에게 상(賞)을 주시니 감사한 일입니다. “더 잘하라”는 채찍으로 알겠습니다.
언론인으로서 저의 미래비전에 대해, 한 말씀 첨언합니다. 남북한의 재통합 시기가 다가오면, 남한의 언론인으로 북한에 진출, 활동하는 것입니다. 평양에 언론사를 차리고, 북동아시아의 중심언론으로 육성하는 일입니다. 언론자유가 만발하는, 미래의 한반도를 희구(希求)합니다. 감사합니다.”
[한국 언론자유에 기여한 필자의 업적]필자의 인생(1952년 생) 대부분은 주간신문(週刊新聞)-인터넷신문에서 유영(遊泳)했다. 52년(1973년 전우신문에 기고하기 시작)기간이라는 긴 시간을 시사 주간신문과 종합 인터넷 매체에서 일했기 때문이다. 1980년 선데이서울 1년 매주 기고(寄稿)의 기간도 있다. 1985-1989년까지 미국 뉴욕 맨해튼에서 발행했던 세계타임스(世界新報. 기자-부장-편집부국장)에 근무했었다. 한국의 군사정부를 맹렬하게 비판했던, 일명 ‘반정부 주간신문’이었다.
1990년부터 1994년까지 토요신문(최종직위=-편집국장), 1994년부터 1996년까지 일요서울(이사 겸 편집국장)에서 근무했었다. 이어 매체 오너(社主)로서 1997년부터 현재까지 28년간 주간신문 ‘주간현대(대표이사-편집국장-발행인)’, 198년부터 현재까지 주신간문 ‘사건의 내막(발행인)’, 2003년부터 현재까지 브레이크뉴스(대표이사-발행인)에서 일해 왔다.
기 기간은 한국 주간신문-인터넷 신문의 역사에서 아주 중요한 기간이었다. 1961년 5.16 군사 쿠데타로 시작된 박정희 군부 정권은 그 첫해에 주간신문 발행되지 못하도록 말살했다. 그때 주간신문 650개가 폐간 조치됐다. 그 후, 노태우 정권 1989년쯤에 독립 주간신문이 창간되기 시작했다. 사실상 토요신문이 독립주간신문의 시작이었다.
필자는 이때부터 주간신문의 편집국장을 맡은 이후-현재까지 주간언론에 몸담았다. 이어 인터넷신문 발행의 초창기인 2003년부터는 브레이크뉴스의 발행인으로 지금까지 활동해오고 있다.
이 기간의 한국 언론 역사는 군사정부에서 민주화 정부-발전된 민주주의 국가로 이전되는 기간이다. 이 기간, 한국은 언론들의 노력으로 민주주가 안착됐다. 정치 민주화도 이룩됐다, 언론이 한국의 민주주의 안착과 성공에 기여한 것이다. 필자는 이 기간 김대중 야당 총재이자-대통령의 최다 인터뷰어 였다. 한국 민주화-김대중의 집권에 기여했다. 이 기간은 한국이 세계10대 경제대국으로 변환되는 급속 성장의 기간이었다. 이때 언론들은 경제 자유화-민주화의 선봉에 섰었다. 국가성장에 기여한 것이다. 이런 영광의 기간에, 필자는 주간신문-인터넷 신문(언론)의 수장(首將)이었다.
한국은 이제 언론의 자유가 만발한, 언론자유의 나라가 됐다. 뿐만 아니라 발행되는 매체 수가 가장 많은 ‘신문의 나라’가 됐다.
남북한 인구 7830만 명(2025년 인구 추산 남한-5170만 명, 북한=2060만 명) 가운데 나(필자) 같은 사람 한-두 명 있는 것도, 좋은 일 아닐까요? 자화자찬(自畵自讚) 한다면, 나는 한국 주간신문-인터넷신문 분야의 국보급 인물입니다. 하하하... moonilsuk@naver.com

The Korea Press Solidarity (Chairman Jeon Seong-nam) held the 4th Legislative-Administrative Awards Ceremony on December 22nd from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the International Conference Room on the 20th floor of the Seoul Press Center. But why is my (Break News publisher Moon Il-seok) face on the list of winners? I (Moon Il-seok) was announced as the "Special Award Winner," just below the "Grand Prize" award.
The list of recipients also includes Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-baek (Social Contribution Award) and Democratic Party of Korea Representative Park Soo-hyun, adding to the significance of the award.

I've been a non-mainstream journalist or media company owner for the past 52 years, and the Korea Press Solidarity has created this joyful moment for me.
What have I done? I've dedicated myself to one path: "recording facts." "Recording facts" is history itself. I pride myself on being a chronicler of modern Korean history. Break News, in particular, is a leading media outlet, boasting 1.14 million news and information items (as of December 18, 2025). Therefore, I accept this award as a tribute to Break News and Weekly Hyundai. We're having a great time together.
I believe this opportunity has come to me because of the internet age. For the first five years of the internet era in Korea, Break News was the best and most prominent media outlet in Korea. This award...we are simply grateful.
The Korea Press Solidarity explained, "The first Legislative and Administrative Awards ceremony was held in the Seoul metropolitan area. Around ten judges selected the winners based on recommendations from media outlets, reporters, and public organizations. The awards were presented annually. Starting with the second ceremony, the focus shifted beyond the Seoul metropolitan area and expanded nationwide for the second and third instalments, and now we are in the fourth." They added, "The awards will award Legislative and Administrative Awards, as well as Social Contribution and Community Service Awards, Special Awards, and Grand Prizes."
The fourth ceremony will be co-hosted by the Korea Federation of Civil Society Organizations and the Korea Voters' Association. Sponsorship will come from approximately 50 media outlets, including Shin-A Ilbo, Bridge Economy, Straight News, News Free Zone, and Sankyung Ilbo.
The Korea Press Solidarity (KPS) is an organization founded in October 2022, with 45 media outlets and approximately 70 journalists. Below are the author's thoughts on this award.

I have worked in the media industry (as a reporter, editor-in-chief, and publisher) for the past 52 years. During this time, my work has been to consistently record the "facts."
It holds special significance in that I have documented the most prosperous period in our nation's 5,000-year history.
This record can be considered the most prosperous and hopeful period in our nation's history. Embedded within this record is the secret to South Korea's success as an advanced nation. Therefore, I can say that it was the happiest period of my career as a journalist.
Korea is a nation of newspapers. With over 11,000 online media outlets, it boasts the highest number of newspapers per capita. If these media outlets deliver high-quality news and information, Korea will inevitably become a global powerhouse.
I am grateful that the Korea Press Association has given me this award. I will take it as a spur to do better.
Let me add a few words about my future vision as a journalist. When the time of reunification between North and South Korea approaches, I hope to become a journalist in South Korea. "Our goal is to advance into North Korea and operate. We will establish a media outlet in Pyongyang and develop it into a central media outlet in Northeast Asia. [The author's contributions to freedom of the press in Korea] Most of my life (born in 1952) has been spent in the world of weekly newspapers and online newspapers. This is because I spent a long 52 years (beginning with the Jeonwoo Shinmun in 1973) working in weekly current affairs newspapers and comprehensive online media. I also contributed weekly to the Sunday Seoul for a year in 1980. From 1985 to 1989, I worked at the World Times (reporter, editor-in-chief, and deputy editor-in-chief), published in Manhattan, New York. It was a so-called "anti-government weekly newspaper" that fiercely criticized the Korean military government.
From 1990 to 1994, I worked at the Saturday Newspaper (final position = editor-in-chief), and from 1994 to 1996, I worked at the Sunday Seoul (director and editor-in-chief). As a media owner, I have worked for 28 years, from 1997 to the present, at the weekly newspaper "Weekly Hyundai" (CEO-Editor-in-Chief-Publisher), the main publication "Inside the Incident" (Publisher) from 1998 to the present, and Break News (CEO-Publisher) from 2003 to the present.
This period was a crucial one in the history of Korean weekly newspapers and online newspapers. The Park Chung-hee military regime, which began with the May 16, 1961 military coup, suppressed the publication of weekly newspapers in its first year. As a result, 650 weekly newspapers were shut down. Later, around 1989, under the Roh Tae-woo administration, independent weekly newspapers began to be published. In effect, the Saturday Newspaper marked the beginning of independent weekly newspapers.
From this time, I served as editor-in-chief of a weekly newspaper, and have been involved in weekly media ever since. Since 2003, the early days of online newspaper publishing, I have served as the publisher of Break News.
This period in Korean media history marks the transition from military rule to a democratic government and a developed democratic nation. During this period, democracy was firmly established in Korea through the efforts of the media. Political democratization was also achieved, and the media contributed to the establishment and success of democracy in Korea. This period was also a period of rapid growth, transforming Korea into one of the world's top ten economies. During this period, the media spearheaded economic liberalization and democratization, contributing to national growth. During this glorious period, I was the leader of a weekly newspaper and an online newspaper (media). During this period, I was the leader of the opposition party and the most frequent interviewee for President Kim Dae-jung. I contributed to the democratization of Korea and Kim Dae-jung's rise to power.
Korea has now become a nation of freedom of the press, a nation where freedom of the press flourishes. Furthermore, it has become the "nation of newspapers," with the largest number of published media outlets.
With a population of 78.3 million in North and South Korea (estimated 2025 population: South Korea - 51.7 million, North Korea = 20.6 million), wouldn't it be a good thing if there were one or two people like me?
