[브레이크뉴스 양주=김완영 기자] 경기도 양주시(시장 강수현)는 문화예술과 관광 진흥 정책을 보다 전문적이고 체계적으로 추진할 수 있는 전담조직 설립의 법적 기반을 마련했으며, 문화관광도시로의 도약을 위한 본격적인 준비 단계에 돌입하게 됐다.
양주문화관광재단은 지역의 풍부한 자원을 연계·활용해 ▲시민 문화복지 증진 ▲관광 콘텐츠 개발 ▲국·도비 공모사업 대응 ▲지역 문화관광 활성화 사업 등을 전문적으로 수행하게 된다.
특히 재단은 시 자체 예산만으로는 한계가 있는 문화관광 사업을 안정적으로 추진하기 위해 국·도비 공모사업 유치와 민간 협력 사업 추진, 기부금 확보 등 다양한 외부재원을 적극적으로 발굴·유치하는 역할을 맡는다.
중앙정부의 관광 분야 공모사업 비중이 확대될 것으로 전망되는 가운데, 재단이 정부 정책 방향에 선제적으로 대응하고 지역에 필요한 공모사업을 발굴하는 전문조직으로 기능할 예정이다.

시 관계자는 “양주문화관광재단 설립은 문화관광 정책을 시 재정에만 의존하지 않고 외부재원을 통해 안정적으로 추진할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “재단 출범을 통해 시민의 문화향유 기회를 확대하고 문화관광 자원을 체계적으로 발굴·육성하는 한편, 시 재정 부담을 줄이고 효율적인 재정 운용이 가능하도록 하겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 이번 재단설립과 관련해 일부 시민은 "양주의 특성상 문화보다는 관광에 더 중점을 두어야 지역발전에 기여할 수 있으며, 회암사지, 대모산성 등 관광지를 개발에 총력을 기울여야 한다"라고 말했다
