파주시가 서울 은평구와 손잡고 지역 간 협력 강화에 나선다.
파주시는 지난 19일 서울특별시 은평구와 우호 증진 및 공동 발전을 위한 자매결연 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 수도권 북부 관문인 파주시와 서울 서북부의 거점 도시인 은평구가 행정·문화·복지 등 다양한 분야에서 협력 네트워크를 구축하고, 주민 체감형 실질 교류를 확대하기 위해 마련됐다.
양 지자체는 협약에 따라 ▲문화·체육 및 관광 교류 ▲행정·정책 정보 공유 ▲교육·청소년 및 주민 교류 ▲농수산물 판로 개척 등을 단계적으로 추진한다는 계획이다.
특히 파주시의 풍부한 역사·문화 자원과 은평구의 도심 인프라를 연계한 관광 활성화, 파주 농산물의 서울 직거래 확대 등 실질적인 성과 창출에 주력할 방침이다.

김경일 파주시장은 "이번 자매결연은 두 도시가 서로의 강점을 공유하며 함께 성장하는 출발점"이라며 "주민 삶의 질 향상으로 이어질 수 있는 실효성 있는 교류를 이어가겠다"고 밝혔다.
김미경 은평구청장도 "파주시와의 자매결연을 계기로 도시 간 협력을 강화하고, 주민이 공감하고 참여할 수 있는 다양한 교류를 만들어 가겠다"고 화답했다.
양 지자체는 앞으로 정기적인 실무협의회를 운영하고, 연 2회 이상 상호 방문 교류를 통해 협력 범위를 지속 확대해 나갈 예정이다.
한편 파주시는 이번 은평구와의 자매결연을 통해 서울과의 접근성을 강화하고, 경기 북부 지역의 균형 발전을 도모할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
